Excellent Album that Grows on You
by nicolattabangbangYou don't have to speak Italian to appreciate Cesare Cremonini's first solo album. The former lead singer of Lunapop offers up a mature and, at times, moody collection of songs in Bagus. Sure, the album has some great upbeat tracks (like the Beatles-esque "Piccola Ery" and "Padremadre"), but I think Cremonini really shines in the more soaring-type ballads like "Vieni a Vedere Perché," "Mille Galassie," and "Mary seduta in un pub." The immensely popular "Latin Lover" is kind of quirky, but for some reason it just works and is quite catchy. If you do know a little Italian, you'll find the lyrics to be personal, introspective, and much more insightful than the youthful lyrics of his days with Lunapop. But regardless, Bagus is a great album that plays well from start to finish.
