iTunes Review

The Ramones made their deepest mark to date with Rocket to Russia, their third album (and second of 1977). Not only was the album a huge fan favorite, it managed several minor hits on the Billboard singles chart with "Sheena is a Punk Rocker," "Rockaway Beach" and a remake of the '50s classic "Do You Wanna Dance." The sound was their cleanest yet, but tracks like "Cretin Hop," "Teenage Lobotomy," and "We're a Happy Family" were hardly less aggressive or hilariously cutting. Again packing 14 songs into barely more than 30 minutes, the band was at a height of concision and imagination. This expanded edition contains five bonus tracks, including the lost song "Slug" and early and demo versions of "I Don't Care," "Needles and Pins," and "It's a Long Way Back."

Review Number Two

by JollyRogers

So yeah, I wrote an annoying rant about two years ago proclaiming how good this album was and then going on a tangent about green day at the time....heres how I feel now.

This album is still really damn good. THe Ramones were at their peak on this album and had crystallized their formula with so many classic songs. Some of my favorites still: Cretin Hop, Rockaway Beach, Sheena Is a Punk Rocker, We're a Happy Family, Teenage Lobotomy. The best part is.....the rest of the album is just as good. If you like punk rock or just having fun with rock music then you should check this band out and buy this album. Maybe its not your style but no one can ignore this album as extremely influential and loved by millions.

As for my douchebag rant on green day, I was just pissed off when I wrote my review. I love green day and consider Dookie and American Idiot to be great albums. I just think its important to see where these styles of music have come from and to pay respect to the inventors of the genre.

The Ramones are the first punk rock band. Other bands, such as the Stooges and the New York Dolls, came before them and set the stage and aesthetic for punk, and bands that immediately followed, such as the Sex Pistols, made the latent violence of the music more explicit, but the Ramones crystallized...
