Album Review
Shot in Kenya, City of God director Fernando Meirelles' The Constant Gardener is a taut political thriller that follows the murder of an activist in South Africa. Longtime Pedro Almodovar collaborator Alberto Iglesias provides a soft, spacious, and ultimately devastating score that utilizes native instrumentation like the marimba, thumb harp, and ronroco. Iglesias uses this folk instrumentation as a base for orchestrations that are as beautiful as they are anxious, resulting in a soundtrack with a distinct sense of place that's contemporary enough to engross listeners from any cultural standpoint. Highlights include "Roadblock," "Procession," and two outstanding pieces from Kenyan-born worldbeat artist Ayub Ogada.

It Changes you...
by nickdyvilleTHe movie and the music move you, change you. It is so full of expression and sadness. This movie really has changes me. It is a great soundtrack. The best song is DEFINITLY Kothbiro. The movie makes you want to do something and everybody should. Help NOW and support charities like (RED) and other ones. So do your bit and help out now.
Great Movie, Great Soundtrack
by Tran-ManThe best tracks on the album are Dicholo and Kothbiro.
WONDERFUL, world-beat - stands on IT'S OWN
by tony4tonyFrom the two weak reviews, I must comment. If you are looking for a movie soundtrack with pop tunes, or the over-nominated, everything-sounds-the-same-these-days John Williams (genius that he is) - then of COURSE this isn't for you. Now that I've told you what it wasn't let me tell you what it is - AMAZINGLY recorded, fill your room up passion with melodies you've never heard before, you will be moved from dancing around your home or work, to the most emotional and poignant chanting and singing that will rip your heart out. What is this like? It's like nothing in the world - but if you are a fan of PETER GABRIEL, for soundtracks that stand on their own, (not the pop fluff, the world beat passion) you will LOVE this. It even goes farther than that - it is totally stirring. It will move you, if modern orchestral, electronic, percussion events ever do anything for you - this will do it for sure. For stirring moving dance - listen to ROADBLOCK II, for the haunting, modern, mourning for Best Supporting Actress - listen to KOTHBIRO.
Even the short clip on the Oscar Broadcast was moving and very beautifully adapted by Itzak Pearlman.
