I lay my black heart on the table...

by Erm... rats?

GBYBH, along with Hide the Kitchen Knives, is THE pAper chAse album. Mixing noise/industrial rock with orchestral indie & folky emo ala Bright Eyes, this album is a conceptual thrill-ride through death, love, God, vengeance, fate, madness, & family. The production is very warm and layered, with plenty of unexpected touches & mathy breakdowns. The eerie post-rock orchestration reminds one of DeVotchka & the Residents, whereas the guitars seethe and drill through the sinuous composition. Shocking poetry dwells in every strained note, and the band shifts between creepy sound collages, noise anthems, and mini-post rock epics with no track breaks. You'll probably learn something more about the album & yourself each time you listen. Just buy it.

I saw Paper Chase open for We Ragazzi and was totally blown away by their performance and had to buy their CD to really try and understand and comprehend what i was hearing. And this CD became one of my favorites, and can still be fresh after years on heavy rotation. Amazing music and lyrics!
