Great Album!
by Mr. TintinI love the way Yo-Yo Ma plays the cello. It sounds like he puts his whole heart into it. The album it really great. My favorite piece it Esctasy of Gold from the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. However, the rest of the album it great as well. Highly recommend this album!
Though for the oboe, Ma's Cello is the way to go
by walker72Few alternate interpretations inspire me, as a rule. Ma's cello and soul collide and guide as "Gabriel's Oboe" washes into "The Falls." With a cello's tears begging to wash the rememberances of painful places and pasts first lowly introduced in the first echoing bars or "Gabriel's Oboe," and sadly rising to realized finality of death and laying it to rest at during, and up until the mark of two minutes into "The Falls." These two pieces are as yin and yang and complementary as any works of art can ever be. They hit all the right notes and emotions in the film due to Morricone's brilliant story telling through tone and measure, yet it all takes a slighly higher plain of heavenly exisitence in Ma's interpretation and performance. It is so right, that seeing or knowing the story of the film is not necessary to feel the narrative beauty they provide. These two songs alone justitfy the album purchase, though you will be moved too by song from Cinema Paradiso and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly in ways the original performances only hinted at. Thank you Ma and Morricone!
Love it
by *SunSpots*Yo-Yo Ma really brings out the beauty in Morricone's compositions. I would love to hear Yo-yo Ma perform Brian Crain's "Piano and Cello Duet".
