iTunes Review

After the unforeseen and unprecedented success of 1982’s Thriller, Michael Jackson had the impossible task of writing and recording the follow-up. Commercially, he couldn’t match the numbers, but artistically 1987’s Bad kept pace, expanding on the sonic challenges of 1979’s Off the Wall and Thriller without losing the radio-ready grooves that made Jackson an international star. The album begins with the playful and funky braggadocio of the title track and the stylishly robotic grind and upbeat thrill of “The Way You Make Me Feel.” Other obvious highlights are littered throughout. “Man in the Mirror,” written by Glen Ballard and Siedah Garrett, brought together Jackson’s powerful myth and his strong pop sense, while “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,’ a power ballad duet with Garrett, has the kind of brainwashing hook expected from the “King of Pop.” But it’s Jackson’s fantasies, as “Speed Demon,” as “Smooth Criminal,” and the mild sexual exploration of “Dirty Diana” that nicely fill out this ambitious, satisfying follow-up. Strip away the hype and expectation and Bad more than delivers as the work of a multi-talented artist in his prime.

Don't Let the iTunes review stop you from buying this album!!

I have so many complaints with the iTunes review that I don't know where to begin. First of all, the reviewer is obviously very biased against Michael Jackson. Michael was not "losing touch" with this album, nor has he ever. Second, this is a review for Bad, NOT!!! Thriller. Stop comparing them!! FYI, Bad might not have sold as many copies as Thriller, but it did sell 32 million, numbers many artists now would kill for. Also, this person clearly has no idea what good music is. Man in the Mirror is one of MJ's most powerful and heartfelt songs. It was very popular when it came out, and dismissing it as "saccharine" is ridiculous. Sorry, but some people actually care about things other than themselves, and want to help make the world a better place. Dirty Diana was not in any way "misogynistic" either, as the reviewer put it.

Anyway, this album is one of my favorites, and there are many reasons why you should buy it, whether you're an MJ fan or not. IMO, it is as good or better than Thriller. I love the songs "Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Speed Demon", "Another Part of Me", "Dirty Diana", "Man in the Mirror", and of course "Smooth Criminal", which is a true classic. "Leave Me Alone" is another great song, which won the Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video at the Grammy's in 1990.

One of Michael's best albums

Bad is indeed some of michaels best work... a must have.

who is it???

Whomever wrote this review for michael jackson must have been on crack, cause the person does not know what good music is, if you want a good album with songs that went to number 1 everywhere, whereas thriller did not, then get this album, it is better than thriller and it is artistically wonderful to hear michael grow stronger in vocals and in music production, his music never sounds like what the era is at the time he records it, its like he's ahead of his time. So for the guy or gal who wrote the review get more appreciative of the kind of music he brings out cause you will never find a huge hitmaker like michael again. I was there when BAD and Thriller came out and he has had a huge impact, way more than elvis and the beatles ever had. enjoy it while he is still on earth people.

Michael Jackson was unquestionably the biggest pop star of the '80s, and certainly one of the most popular recording artists of all time. In his prime, Jackson was an unstoppable juggernaut, possessed of all the tools to dominate the charts seemingly at will: an instantly identifiable voice, eye-popping dance moves, stunning musical versatility, and loads of sheer star power. His 1982 blockbuster Thriller became the biggest-selling album of all time (probably his best-known accomplishment), and he...
