The Irony of Emergency

by Audiio~Sync©

Imagine a familiar voice, something like that of a close relative that always calmed you down in an emergency state of mind. His voice is soft and soothing. That voice is none other than Dudley Saunders. I can’t tell you how much praise I have for this album, but I’m going to try. If Tom Waits, Andrew Bird, and Johnny Cash had a child Dudley Saunders would be that talented child. “The Emergency Lane”, is a fitting title. I can imagine myself driving late at night on a mountain misty road heading home from a wedding, wishing that I was the groom of that beautiful bride. Lately I’ve been going through quite a number of emergencies and ironically the album “Emergency Lane” is what I’m reviewing in my current state of mind. This album evokes relaxation along with dancing in the same sentence. Visions of Dream Catchers, catching the worst of your fears comes to mind whilst listening to this record. Above all else, Dudley Saunders is not a force to be reckoned with. He is an entity of it’s own. That is why I give praise for “The Emergency Lane” by Dudley Saunders.

Cheers over and out,

Dudley Saunders is my uncle and I have never been more proud than I am right now. His music is so wonderful and meaningful. I love all his work. And I love him and hope he never stops writing and singing and playing!!!!

Uncle Ozma

Dudley Saunders more closely resembles Jacques Brel or Edith Piaf than a
modern singer/songwriter. That's not to say that his songs sound old
fashioned- how could something titled "Love Song for Jeffrey Dahmer" be
anything but thoroughly modern? No, it's the delicate precision with which
each piece is drawn, the detailed look at a moment in time that remind me of
Brel & Piaf. Additionally, the arrangements are equally delicate and
precise. Saunders' quitar is leant substance by a seven piece band that
includes unique instrumental touches from harmonium, strings, mandolin &
dobro. Special mention must be given to producer/arranger Milo Decruz. He is
completely in tune with Saunders and draws out the best qualities of each
song. Saunders is extremely talented. I look forward to his future releases.
