The cover of “Time Change” shows the symbol of two dead worlds looking at the source of their destruction. The album tells the story of shooting in the dark, fast guns on the draw, like in the old-time Westerns, settling things fast and sure, Texas-style. The hero always wins. But that’s not the way this scenario ends. In a world where reason is supposed to exist, we find our cowboy calling his posse to “Saddle up—boys and ride out!” The machines of war rev-up to a cacophonous roar, letting all know that the Company’s coming to bring down those monuments. Victory dances. Except now there’s a new sign in town: “Send Jack Back in the Box.” Let’s camp for the night. It’s day’s end. Listen for the bugle-call in the distant valley below. “Light’s out boys, tomorrow we ride again!” But that is not to be, it was a case of night vision. Instead it’s Taps for us all. The blinding core burning too brightly for a day’s end. The perpetual light there on the pedestal for all to see. Is anybody looking?
Composer Alan Lorber’s 21st Century Orchestra albums are of a symphonic psychedelic genre drawn from the musical roots of the cross-fusion rock, jazz, Indo and psychedelic recordings he created as a successful arranger/producer/composer, working from the early 60’s to the present. “Time Change” precedes the release of “-21st Century Orchestra Anthology Vol. 1”, the 12th album in the Alan Lorber-21st Century Orchestra series which is a compilation of selections taken from each of the previously issued albums on the Iris Music Group label.
