Album Review

Queensrÿche returned from a four-year absence with Promised Land only to find the hard rock landscape very different than the one they left in 1990. But Queensrÿche did something smart. Instead of trying to adjust themselves to fit into the world that their Seattle brethren had created, they simply stayed the same. Not only was the record a commercial success — it went gold in four months — but it was also an engaging album. Promised Land lacks the conceptual unity and consistent songwriting of Operation: Mindcrime, but it makes it clear that the band hasn't run out of ideas yet.

My favorite to this day.

I have been a Ryche fan since 1991, and to this day Promised Land is one of my favorites. When I first bought the CD I was a little disappointed due to the amount of slow songs it has. It may take a listen or two, but the production quality, and uniqueness of these songs really stands the test of time. I'm sorry to say that since this CD they have never done an album at this level. They've had some great songs since then, but no album as a whole has been this good. At 8 bucks, it's a steal. My favorite tracks are Promised Land, Disconnected, and Lady Jane. That's a great trilogy.

Great Follow Up To Predecessors

In 1988 Queensryche released arguably one of the best rock albums ever recorded: "Operation Mindcrime." In 1990, they followed that stellar concept album with (what is written on the album jacket) the culmination of the entire band's creative efforts for "Empire;" another fantastic album which contains some of my personal favorite tracks "Jet City Woman"and "Della Brown." Queensryche's 4th full length album "Promised Land" is a very good release considering what it had to follow. The tracks are heavy while still keeping the emotional touch of the guitars and rythym. The album may not be one continious story line, or individual stories within themselves: however, not changing with the fad of grunge (not to disrespect the genre) Queensryche proves with "Promised Land" that they can generete fresh ideas that translate into an artistic and quality album that can be appreciated for what it is: Good Stuff.
