Album Review

Maybe it's the fact that he plays all of his own instruments rather than just spinning and beat-matching the work of others, but Chuck Love brings something very unusual to the house music scene: a sense of the song rather than just a sense of the groove. On this two-disc set he showcases both his original compositions (on the really stellar first disc) and a full DJ set of remixes of work by such eminent colleagues as Ricardo Rae, Andy Caldwell, White Lotus Society and the always impressive Colette. The DJ disc is a solid achievement without being anything particularly groundbreaking or exceptional, but the first disc is a real treat. Love's work with his Minneapolis friend Fourfeet is especially good — the surprisingly funky and breakbeat-laden "Never Forget" and the more mainstream house-oriented "Back in My Life" are both top-notch songs. But "Bailando," a Latin house workout featuring Estaire Godinez, and "Long Way Down" are also minor gems. Things do bog down just a little bit near the middle, with the tedious "Beatdown" (a song built almost entirely of clubland clichés and catch phrases) offering the low point. But everything else is so good that it's easy to forgive the occasional soft spot. Highly recommended.

Unbelievable!!!!

I never rate things, but this album is ridiculously awesome! I bought it at the Uniqlo apparel store in Soho, NYC out of all places for $15 but it includes 2 CDs. Unfortunately, iTunes doesn't sell disc #2 which is the mixed one. Either way, you will not regret buying all the tracks of disc #1. Every song will get you amped and dancing all night long. Cheers.

Where's the Mix CD?

I just heard the Vol2 to this set on MusicChoice on cable, and it was awesome! So naturally, I visit iTunes to see if I can get it. Strike one. Only Vol1 is there. I guess I'm going to the local record shop for the CD set... Bummer!

Better than Love Mysterious but not Those Things...

I put this release somewhere in between Migs and Kaskade's releases this year. Chuck Love has got a little too much similar sounding male vocals with four songs involving Fourfeet. However, do yourself a favor and buy the Beatdown remix done by Troydon. It's an absolute killer. One of the best house tracks I've heard in the last 2 years.
