Far from Ordinary Sons
Had no idea what I was getting into except a peek at their Myspace page. So I went to the Cake Shop (LES) in NYC to see them live. After the opener everyone was hanging out, but no one was setting up for the second act, Ungdomskulen. Then the drummer runs in looking like they'd been elsewhere or got stuck on a train and the others shortly followed, setting up in record speed to play what was easily a triumph in every sense. Tight music. Entertaining personalities. One of the most fun performances flat out in a long time. Really, words cannot do it justice. I just tried to get descriptive of it and deleted it all. Finally a band just wanting to give a great show. If you get to see them live you'll buy the CD on the way out guaranteed. So I guess that means I'd buy it here too. Except you'll miss the cool photography inside.
Solid
After falling for "Modern Drummer" through FIFA 09, I came on iTunes looking for this band.
After one listen through, I'm pretty happy with the Cry-Baby. Solid stracks include My Beautiful Blue Eyes, Spartacus, and Witches Mate in the Underground. A couple of the tracks seem a little elementary (Ordinary Son and Feels Like Home come to mind) but overall the structure and flow of the album is excellent. Ofcourse Modern Drummer is still the highlight for (It's my current power song on my long runs). The album definitely has that European, Progressive, Indie feel to it. Definitely worth the $8!
