iTunes Review

Rick Rubin was the perfect person to usher Glenn Danzig into a new chapter following the dissolution of the Misfits and Samhaim. Coming off landmark productions for Slayer and The Cult (whose singer, Ian Astbury, displayed a vocal style reminiscent of Danzig), Rubin knew exactly how to milk Danzig’s brooding persona for all it was worth. The dry, spare production was a marked contrast to the squealing pop metal of the day. The album is built around Danzig’s sinister croon, heard here in perfect detail for the first time, after years of being buried by the racket of the Misifts and Samhain. “She Rides” borrows its lewd throb from The Doors, while songs like “Twist of Cain,” “Possession,” and “Evil Thing” renew a strain of bluesy metal that superstar bands like Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, and Pantera carried into the Nineties. One of the greatest rock songs of all time, the muscular “Mother” emanates unadulterated attitude. As for Danzig’s lyrics, he could consider it a personal triumph that his solo debut was one of the first albums to feature a “Parental Advisory” sticker, even though there isn’t one profane word on the entire album.

if you heard of Danzig from Guitar Hero, go get a real axe!

The Start Of A Great IV Albums And One Sick EP!

This album is one of the best recordings I have ever heard. The songs are true to what Glenn Danzig is as song writer. The high points of the album is from "Twist of cain" straight on through to "Evil Thing" Mother of corse is the famed track from Danzig. Let me level with you that is only the start of how great the songs are on this album and on the other III albums. A must get for any new comer to Danzig. Enjoy!

Mother Is Overrated

The real masterpiece on this album is Twist Of Cain! I just love that freakin' heavy/bluesy riff! It blows Mother out of the water

Biography

Formed: 1987

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

During his time in the seminal hardcore band the Misfits, vocalist Glenn Danzig displayed a fascination with outlandish, graphic, often gory imagery; in forming the more heavy metal-oriented band Samhain, Danzig's lyrics delved into typical metal subject matter, but took the concept of darkness to an extreme. After the demise of Samhain, Danzig formed his own eponymous band with Samhain guitarist John Christ, ex-Rosemary's Babies drummer Eerie Von on bass, and longtime hardcore drummer Chuck Biscuits...
