iTunes Review

Face it: She's never coming back. Yet here you are again for the fifth Friday in a row — caught in a stasis, as paralyzed as someone who just saw a ghost. Which is exactly how ( ) starts and stays for five tracks and nearly 30 glacial minutes, sparking a song cycle of denial and acceptance that's as gorgeous and grand as it is dire and debilitating. A breakup album in the most untraditional sense, it plays out like the plot of an independent movie with major studio backing, leaving everything up to the imagination with a nonlinear progression of disembodied phrases ("you sat along the fire," "you suffer, alone," both of which are repeated nonsensically throughout the record) and crystalline sound (the lonely ping of an elongated piano chord, the brushing and crashing of cymbals, the complete cacophony of tension-releasing riffs). By the time the eighth and final untitled track careens and climaxes, the effect is like being chased by a serial killer — one close enough to poke and prod, but not quick slice, the skin — only to be saved at the last second by some sort of intervening hope. In other words, it's a thrill ride from start to end, even during its slowest, most alien moments.

REAllY really really amazing, took me 6 months to get this album because it's so abstract, but once you grasp it your eyes are open and you can experience it's emotional intesity, my favorite album of Sigur Ros, and perhaps my favorite album from any band

Pointless? I Think Not.

This is one of the best albums I have ever heard, and by far, one of the best post-rock bands out there. And post-rock is one of the best examples proving that music does not need words to make an impact on something or get a point across.
And to those who asked what the point was to this music because there were no words, well, have you ever listened to classical music? It's the root for every thing you listen to currently and it has no words. Just a bunch of "noise," if you please. So, were the classical composers in the wrong when they made a symphony orchestra make "noise"? I think not. Just like visual art does not require words to make a point, neither does music. It's up for interpretation from the viewer/listener. So, really, none of these reviews even matter because the whole concept is so subjective. Even still, one should not accuse this of being simply just noise and not music. Just as modern art is still art even though one could just as easily cover an entire canvas with red paint and sell it for millions(and I do not especially enjoy modern art).
I suppose the main point I am trying to acheive with all of this is that this band is exceptionally good and that people should not post "reviews" asking questions like how this could possibly be music since there are no words.

Sigur Rós FTW.
