iTunes Review
Teaming up with producer John Rich of Big and Rich for her first foray into country music, modern day adult-contemporary folksinger Jewel easily makes the transition. Actually, it isn’t a transition so much as a matter of instrument choices. Rich adds slide guitar, fiddle, banjo and mandolin to Jewel’s usual arsenal of acoustic guitar and piano. Jewel tilts her delivery slightly towards country music inflections, but it’s mostly the back-up singers, the interjected instrumental hooks and the overall pacing of the tunes that signify country. “I Do” would be a straight-forward pop tune if not for its slide guitar solo. “Stronger Woman” delivers a self-empowerment anthem that’s one electric guitar shy of pop-rock. “Love is A Garden,” Two Become One,” and “Anyone But You” settle in for soft-rock with pianos leading Jewel down the contemplative path of pleasant love song platitudes. Jewel’s strengths have always been her melodies and her irony-free sincerity. And, yes, she gets her chance to use her legendary yodeling skills for “Loved By You (Cowboy Waltz).” Still not a complete country girl, but she’s on the range.

Although Not That Country and Not That Creative, It's Still Really Good
by # 87-Crosby + # 71-Malkin = Penguins VictoryWhen I first listened to this Cd, I wasn't expecting it to sound all that country and more like Goodbye Alice in Wonderland. I was right. It doesn't have a very country feel to it except for a couple mandolins here and there. I absolutely love it, though. She has never disappointed me. The only thing wrong with this album is that the lyrics aren't the typical Jewel lyrics which are so creative and hard to understand. I would have to listen to a song 5 million times to understand what it meant, but for this album the songs weren't really a mystery to me and I got what she wanted to say the whole album. Even though it's not as creative, it is still a whole heck of a lot better than the stuff you here on the radio. Stronger Woman, I Do, Rosey and Mick, Thump Thump, Two Become One are the best. And if you are thinking: "Isn't 'Two Become One' on another album?" Yes it is and she did it on her last album too with Fragile Heart. This time I think the old and new version sound just as good. That is a good thing, though. I thought the new version of Fragile Heart sounded better than the old. It is, overall, a good album, but I don't think it is going to please a lot of the diehard fans who are still stuck on her "old sound." I prefer to look at each album as a whole and I see this one as a winner.
Kinda lightweight.
by Simplepleasures.Perfectly Clear by Jewel is her first country album and the results are mixed for me. Some of the songs are flat and uninspired like Anyone But You and Love is A Garden. Stronger Woman was a weak choice for a single. The title-track and Loved By You are beautiful and so is I Do. Jewe's voice continues to shine but the material here is pretty average, her weakest album to date.
Jewel's alright in her country roots, but not my cup of tea.
by theDrkKnght1988I didn't like her new stuff so much. The country era fits her well, she sang well, but she get's into harder stuff. I need some more moving lyrics. I need to hear some more real Jewel.
