Best album purchase of the year

Ben Shive's music peels away layers around your heart until it gets to the tender center. He will have you in the palm of his musical hand, traveling with him through the wide range of human emotions. You will be in awe of his musical ability but at the same time be saying, "wow, this is just an ordinary guy and he's a lot like me." It's worth mentioning that this isn't an album that will pump you up or put you on an emotional high. It will, however, deeply reconnect you with your humanness and point you to God. Love it, thank you Ben!!!

Poetry

This is an excellent and refreshing new work. This album uses colorful inflections and deep grooves in a poetic and thought-provoking exploration of our times. Ben wrestles with the discrepancies between an imperfect world and the desire for an objective purpose and reality. He paints a full range of human emotions with his music and quality lyrics. The album can be devastatingly melancholy and nihilistic on one hand but leaves room for the listener to hope for a higher purpose. "4th of July" provokes a longing nostalgia and vivid mental images then turns to leave the listener realizing the fleeting brevity of our lives and experiences such as these; and it does so with a few choice words and the right musical variation. "There's a hole in the pocket of the midnight blue. I am slipping through like a lucky dime. I'm running like a boy in brand new shoes." Again, his words are poetry and with the power of his music make the listener experience a range of emotions: true love, lonileness, loss, joy, fufillment in marriage, and saddness.

This is really good music. If you like Ben Folds, Jon Brion, Aimee Mann, Harry Nilsson, The Beach Boys (Pet Sounds), Wilco AND heartbreakingly perfect lyrics, you should probably go ahead and download this album right now.
