iTunes Review

Worship music veteran Charlie Hall reinvigorates his Christ-centered sound on The Bright Sadness. After more than a decade of involvement with the influential Passion movement, this album finds him exploring new ways to uplift and inspire. Hall is willing to step outside the familiar conventions of the worship subgenre, treating his songs as personal expressions as much as calls to praise. True, there are hosanna-filled rockers like “Chainbreaker” and “Thrill” here that would fit comfortably on any number of worship albums. More unusual though are tracks like the otherworldly “The Second Alive” and the skittering, nuanced “Scenes.” From the twitchy groove of “Walk the World” to the orchestral grandeur of “Bloom Again,” Hall successfully tests his sonic limits. His inclusive vision extends to the most reviled sinner (“Hookers and Robbers”) as well as the conflicted believer (“My Brightness”). As a singer, Hall can push a bit too hard, though he's certainly capable of more subtle vocalizing — as “Mystery” shows. And that’s a small complaint to register about an album as impressive as this one. Hall goes his own way on The Bright Sadness — and in the process, reaffirms his spiritual message.

After Seeing him in concert last week, I gotta say, Charlie is one of the nbest since Petra!

Granted, his band is WAY better in concert. That isn't to say that songs like Chain Breaker, Walk the World, and Second Alive aren't still great on recording. However less soulfull. Either way, I still love his music. And my church group met him and he's a terrific guy.

I just returned for the student life @ the beach camp 2009. I was so touched by this music that I pratically broke down in worship because the words were so powerful. I had never heard of Charlie Hall but I do now. He has so much passion in his music and when you see him, you can tell he has a love for Christ just by his Chrtistian-like attitude. This music can really change your life. It will make a difference. One special thing; just seeing it live was even better than the cd. I LOVE YOU CHARLIE!! THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!!

Amazing!

I got his CD, Flying Into Daybreak, because of the song, Marvelous Light, but was blown away by how Flying Into Daybreak was and is. I didn't think that Charlie Hall would be able to top it, but The Bright Sadness is just as good if not better. I would recommend the entire album. They're all so good that I can't pick out what my favorite song is. It's well worth the $9.99 that you'll have to pay for it. Hope this helps!
