Better than most of its praise music peers, the David Crowder Band bridges the gap between a rave and a revival. The group’s throbbing beats, twittering synthesizers, and chant-inducing lyrics sweep up the listener in waves of sanctified sound. Remedy Club Tour gives a sense of how mesmerizing Crowder can be in a live setting. The set runs through most of the band’s signature tunes (including “Everything Glorious,” “Remedy,” and “Surely We Can Change”) with a feel for dramatic pacing and crowd involvement. The sometimes dense textures of Crowder’s studio albums are reproduced faithfully here, right down to the techno-burbles and tinkling glockenspiels. Crowder proves himself an affable frontman, inspiring fans to sing and (in “Foreverandever, Etc.”) whistle along with enthusiasm. From New Wave pop exercises (“A Beautiful Collision”) to acoustic hoedowns (“I Saw the Light”), there’s welcome sonic variety here and several numbers (especially “We Won’t Be Quiet”) are superior to their studio versions. The David Crowder Band blurs the distinctions between a church service and a rock concert in joyful fashion, and it’s all here in these pulsating, faith-powered grooves.
