iTunes Review
At first blush this Texas foursome might be classified as a well-scrubbed harmony combo a la Rascal Flatts. But the group displays enough guitar abrasiveness and rhythmic heft to separate them from the pack. Judging by this album, co-leaders Mike Eli and James Young have been listening to classic rock and Americana acts as well as current country hit-makers. “Famous” has the romantic angst of early Springsteen, while the atmospheric jangle of “Radio Waves” recalls REM’s first albums. Those hankering for a taste of Eagles and Poco-style L.A. rock will find traces of it in “When it Rains” and “Enough is Enough.” The lyrics often transcend typical country clichés, with “Guinevere” standing out for its portrait of a music-obsessed young woman. When they want to, Eli Young can rock convincingly, as evidenced on the twang-heavy “Throw and Go” and the swaggering title song. Jet Black & Jealous straddles the line between mainstream and alternative country modes and for the most part the results are impressive.

by D-bertIt's funny how quick people drop some artist because sound changes. I think this album just shows the bands ability to grow and thrive in a cut throat industry. Great album great sound!

by Whoop10So the first three reviews I read on iTunes are how they have sold out and that this album is no where near as good as their past ones. Quit playing follow the leader and saying someone sold out just because its the cool thing to say. Ask yourself what made this band in the first place and whether or not you still hear it. I say not only is it still there but they have gotten better. Always the love songs may be getting play around the country but if they were still independent no one would think it didn't fit with the Texas music scene. Guinevere is flat out one of the best written songs to come along in quite some time. There are no words to describe how well done it is. Enough is enough, home, mystery in the making, and jet black and jealous are all great and don't sound much different than any of their previous stuff. One of the best albums of the year.
