iTunes Review
The producer and instrumentalist Jon Brion has created scores for a number of Hollywood projects, including Magnolia, I Heart Huckabees, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The latter film was scripted by Charlie Kaufman, and when Kaufman made his directorial debut with Synecdoche, New York, Brion was called upon to create the score. The Synecdoche soundtrack features a string orchestra joined at times by guitar, bassoon, piano, and other instruments. Moods and tones vary, from the ironically perky march, “Tacky Entrance Music,” to “Sex Based Decision Making,” which, despite the humorous title, is a somber piece for piano and strings. The album closes strongly with three songs: "Little Person,” which is used in Synecdoche’s trailer, voices the dream of finding the right mate in a fairly straightforward and touching manner; “Song for Caden” is a self-conscious love song with a morbid, it-doesn’t-really-matter attitude evocative of Randy Newman; “Schenectady,” a gloomy-but-funny slice of Americana that spotlights old-timey vocals, wraps things up on a bittersweet note.

Who else but Jon Brion?
by your grandfatherIn the four films I've seen with Jon Brion penned scores, I always am amazed as to how complementary an artist he is. I mean, the scores he creates are just perfect, in every way; they fit the scene, tell the story, enhance the emotions, etc. Also, the overall mood of his scores really mirrors the overall mood of the movies.
This movie, "Synecdoche, New York" is, in and of itself, a strange, quirky, weird film. Brion's score fits perfectly. What sounds to be a predominantly MIDI oriented score is accented with occasional ambient noise, namely the computer-esque background noises in "Dmi Thing from When She was the Kitchen", and "Piano Two". That's where I ask, 'Who else but Jon Brion?'
Also, "Ok" is extremely beautiful.
Awesome.
Double amazing
by Daniel Day-Lewisthis is just good stuff, enough said. jon brion set the perfect mood for this film. i love the way he uses the piano...such an original sound. like a soundtrack for my life...i just set it all on repeat. buy it.
Deanna Storey
by Ms. EmyThis is a brilliant soundtrack, one of Brion's best. I think, however, what makes it, is Deanna Storey's vocals. She isn't even mentioned in itunes review of the CD, nor is she even on itunes. I would really like to see her CD "Sometimes I'm Happy" on for sale on here.
