Great music for both the settled and the sojourner

I was excited to hear Todd had a new offering in the works as I was a huge fan of the “Village Thrift: circa 2005” project. “And Have Not Love” did not disappoint as several songs grabbed me from the first listen. Musically, the best way to describe it is: scenic. I kept hanging out in several songs; rewinding & re-listening, because the multi-layered, textured vocal and musical arrangements kept pointing me to exciting little spots to stop take in.

As an example, midway through “Arise and Shine”, a luring violin is met with the sound of a crowd cheering and the addition of strong male background vocals; giving the song a gentle power that makes your insides jump up with a raised fists. Throughout the album, there are great spots to just sit down and unpack (sometimes multiple spots in one song as a harmonica, violin, & horns are married with ambient electronica). Some songs keep my attention more than others, but I find myself loving this album with each listen.

In addition to being musically dynamic, the lyrical impact is powerful. It listens like part “modern book of Psalms” and part manifesto. To those looking for an engaging and very original worship experience, you’ll find that here, but also be prepared to be challenged. I walked away with several “am I living and loving as well as I can” moments. To those journeying through wild downtown spiritual streets looking for a place that is genuine, but doesn’t overwhelm this may be your resting spot for a while. “And Have Not Love” is definitely worth a listen, or 50 (and counting).

Todd's at work again

While I've only met Todd a couple of times, the man's energy and passion for Christ is evident as soon as you see him. This album is a poor representation of one of Todd's live performances (I was lucky enough to be at the CD release party on Jan 7th!) but it's not bad if you weren't there! :) This is a good album, but be prepared for the unexpected - the electic mix of styles and sounds reminds me of what might happen if Sting inhabited U2's body, and then decided to become a painter. If that makes no sense, welcome. I recommend this album for anyone who isn't afraid to listen to something that's different, but also strikingly familiar. Go Todd!

This album is one of my favorites...

At first listen, I really liked this album...at second listen, I started to really identify with the lyrics...at third, forth, fifth, etc., I found myself singing these tunes in my head through out the day! Todd has taken ancient truths and translated them into the language of the modern day artist. He blurs the line between rock, funk and electronica flawlessly! In my opinion, this is one of the most eclectic albums, stylistically speaking, that I've heard in a while! Great job Todd! Thanks for making great music!
