iTunes Review

Lisa Hannigan is probably best known for her work with Damien Rice, but with this release, she’s taken center stage where she belongs. At first listen, these charming acoustic folk-pop songs sound simple and straightforward until the many subtle touches and clever arrangements soak in to reveal an ethereal sound that leaves a lot of open space in the music. In particular, the shimmering “Venn Diagram” and the album closer “Lille” are simply gorgeous. A skilled multi-instrumentalist, (she plays guitar, bass, and drums) Hannigan also has a beautiful, slightly breathy voice that is both soothing and engaging, and which complements her tender melodies well. She’s understated without being too wispy, and the use of haunting cellos, plucked violins, upright bass, and piano anchor the songs and prevent them from floating away. Sea Sew is a stirring debut by an artist fully capable of standing on her own merits.

Just saw her last night in Los Angeles

She and her band opened for David Gray's group and completely held their own. I might've even enjoyed their performance more than Gray's, as it was more intimate and felt more vital, less rehearsed.

I had seen her on TV once a few months ago and thought she was pretty good, but after last night I bought this album. It is just really thoughtful and carefully constructed folk, very beautiful and melodic, with enough complexity to keep it a long-term fulfilling listen.

Beautiful!

If Feist, Regina Spektor, and Fiona Apple has a love child it would be Lisa Hannigan. Her voice is so soothing. Her songs are so truthful and adorable they put a smile on your face. Definitely buy this album and brighten your day.

Incredible

What a smart and perfect debut solo. The band backing Hannigan makes her voice rise to incredible heights. From first song to last, this is a winner. 'Teeth' is a haunting memory, and 'I Don't Know' made me fall in love, literally, with Hannigan.
