Album Review

Madina Lake's second album is produced by David Bendeth, the same man who helped turn Paramore's Riot! into one of the most popular emo-pop albums of 2007. While Paramore's album melded big, bright choruses with teenaged angst, the boys in Madina Lake prefer a darker blend of electronic flourishes and anxious, brittle rock. They also pepper their music with futuristic story lines, although the fictional town that inspired much of the band's debut is largely absent from this sophomore effort. Instead, Attics to Eden takes up residence in the intersection of post-grunge and emo-inspired rock.

Mind Blowing Awesomeness

No really. ATE is FTTUTY 100 times over, and I've been a huge Madina Lake fan since that album came out. Theres a lot of different sounds on this album, from catchier songs like Statistics (I can never get that out of my head!) to the dark and mellow sounds of songs lke Friends and Lovers. If you liked FTTUTY, you'll like this one. If you didn't, well, give this a try anyway. It may surprise you.

this is the work of the producer

The producer for this album, David Bendeth, has produced TONS of pop-punk bands just like Madina Lake. Honestly I felt their first album was them creating music from their soul, and this album is just Bendeth telling them "make this album how I say and you will make it huge". So what, a post-hardcore band goes pop-punk, it happens all the time. Catchy yes, but not musically satisfying. I've also seen ML live twice in the last year, and their second show was much more "showy" filled with confetti cannons and other b******t that was not present in their first show 6 months before. Still, they are a band worth following and will probably bust up the pop scene on their next album.

Success

I have to admit, when reading about how Madina Lake said this album was going to be way different than their first album, I was a little nervous since From Them, Through Us, To You is one of my favorite albums out of everything I have, but this new album is still good. More electronic, less rock, but still delicious. I prefer the first album though.
