iTunes Review

Four years after Some Cities, Doves return triumphant with the heavy, epic rumbling sound of Kingdom of Rust. The trio's penchant for minor chords and reverb-heavy production drapes the new album in overcast, moderately melancholy tones, and an underlining theme of movement and travel affords their fourth album a kinetic aesthetic. On opening track, “Jetstream,” frontman Jimi Goodwin sings about catching a drift on a troubled dream as the instrumentation gradually creates the feeling of dislocated movement — with the eventual appearance of stomping drums, cascading electronic.s and an effective, minimal guitar riff. Hints of woozy psychedelia color “10:03”, which starts like Coldplay-meets-Glasvegas and ends with a thundering U2-inspired groove, and the trio is occasionally accompanied by violin and cello (“Kingdom of Rust,” “Birds Flew Backwards”) for swirling, orchestral atmospherics.

Outstanding. Clearly a wonderful--carefully put together album. I am sold on the Doves.

Awesome CD

This CD rocks. Lots of texture, great vocals and strong melodic passages. Probably one of the most solid releases in past decade.

Exceptional.

A highly under-rated band producing some more great music. There's even a hint of Pink Floyd at certain moments during the album. Anyone remotely into Doves is truly going to love this new record. Great stuff!!
