Can't wait for the 4th EP!!
by On the MarquisHot House / Character Assassination / Litter to Society - All AMAZING!!
Gloom & doom you can dance to... what a concept!
by Deltoid ChironIn this third EP of four in Del Marquis' ambitious solo project with collaborators Embryoroom, Del makes his strongest and most dystopian sociopolitical statement yet... but does it with a horn section, backup singers, and a whole lotta funk. Think Funkadelic meets Bauhaus meets Tears for Fears, with a healthy dose of The Cure, and many more industrial, R&B, and blue-eyed-soul influences. Most of it is set to a dance beat, so you can still boogie your a*s off while contemplating our corrupt, alienating world on the verge of apocalypse.
In addition to the Goth/funk/dance of the title track, along with Any Kind of Love, and their “shadows,” it struck me while listening to Bug and Backroom I & II that Del and Embroroom (Edward Quist and Michael Wargula) might have found a new avenue for their talents. The industrial/techno sound of the latter tracks would be perfect for use in a sci-fi film score.
But amidst all the darkness of the lyrical doom and gloom, Del's nightmare vision always offers hope for redemption and the preservation of primal innocence, as seen in the title track's repeated line “Child Inside”. And if you can listen to Del's beautiful, heartfelt rendition of Bob Dylan's ballad I Believe in You without feeling the tiniest ghost of a lump in your throat, you'd better check your pulse and make sure you're not dead. Perhaps these glimmers of hope will become a pathway back to the sunlight in the fourth and final EP of this innovative and unique project.
A first in in many ways.
by StockhauserLitter to Society is a first in many ways. Del Marquis (of supergroup Scissor Sisters) has his first collaboration.
Embryoroom's first forray into the pop main stream. The first true multimedia proposition on iTunes.
It is a concept album ranging from electronic retro to post modern beats and atmospheres.
Del shows his dark side and willingness to embrace it, but with a heartfelt exit strategy.
The music takes us from the dark, through insane debauchery and then somehow a rapid climb to the light with a Bob Dylan composition non-the-less!
I've read about the digital films or 'intersodes," found one here on iTunes in the past and they are unlike anything I
have seen before.
Being a fan of Embryoroom's last film Kuvaputki, a far more extreme effort, the intersodes here The Third Rail parts 1&2 are epic in a claustrophobic way.
The liner notes bring attention to two people who are featured in the film Ayaz Marhoni and Mahmoud Asgari. If you don't know who these two people are you should find out. To me this points to the central to the concept of this record and film. The music is on one hand pop, on the other experimental, and overall a soundtrack to over coming a state of fear.
