iTunes Review

When two creative individuals come together to work, the results can be either inspired or implosive. The singular singer/songwriter/pianist/arranger Regina Spektor collaborated with not one but four different producers on her fifth studio album, Far, and the result fortifies the Russian-American’s already impressive body of work. Traveling Wilbury Jeff Lynne (E.L.O., Paul McCartney), Mike Elizondo (50 Cent, Fiona Apple), Garrett Lee (U2), and David Kahne (Sugar Ray, Matthew Sweet) all worked with Spektor, who delves largely into the grand theme of religion. “Laughing With,” the haunting lead-off single, might have its analog in the saying “there are no atheists in foxholes.” “The Calculation” is pure joy, while “Blue Lips” evolves from a cinematically reflective introduction to an actively explorative cadence.

Regina Really is the Human of the Year! ;)

Haha. I love puns.
AAAanyway! I love Regina. She is an excellent artist, and I feel that Begin to Hope was really her masterpiece. Far is really a different kind of album than what she has done before. It is not so quirky, childish, and inexperienced as the other ones. Which were GREAT, don't get me wrong! ;) But this album seems to portray experience, age, and the journey of life in full blast. It's excellent if you want to listen to a seriously deep, melodic, and interesting album! Hehe. just BUY it already!!!! :)

SELL OUT?

Loved the experimentation and quirkiness of her previous albums, not to mention the dark streak that balanced some of the more cheerful tunes. This feels WAY too radio-friendly for me, and was truly a disappointment.

Amazing!

I know of very few artists that can put out two brilliant albums in a row, but Regina Spektor happens to be one of them. Each song on Far sounds like it could have come straight off Begin To Hope (which, at least in my opinion, is about as close to perfect as an album will ever get). Regina's vocals are, as usual, impressive and unique, and the piano work is gorgeous to say the least. Regina hasn't lost her touch at all - in fact, "Folding Chair" and "Blue Lips" may be two of her greatest songs yet. And if you're into her darker stuff, "Machine" reminds me a whole lot of "The Flowers," my favorite from Soviet Kitsch. Even songs I didn't like much at first (namely "Wallet" and "Man of a Thousand Faces") are starting to grow on me. Overall, I'd say this album is pretty awesome, definitely worth nine bucks.
