Awesome.
by OneWAY1991The quality of Weird Al's albums overall seems to be improving greatly. Back in the eighties and ninties Al usually put out some pretty weak tracks, though the albums as a whole were great. Nowadays, you can listen to his entire "Straight Outta Lynwood" album without skipping tracks as often as say, "Dare To Be Stupid."
So far all these new originals are great. "Skipper Dan" is one of Al's character songs. Capturing more of the overall life of it. Although his music always ends up telling a story about something, this one does in an almost serious way. I don't feel that this is a serious song by any means, but I know that a serious artist could pop a song out like this and not get weird looks.
As I recall, this song is musically based off of Weezer. This is one time I haven't been completely familiarized with the artist he's capturing the style of, but it sounds great. The backing vocals are great, the instrumental work is something new to Al's catalog and it's even something some people can partially relate to.
Surely that seems to be a serious tone, but it really isn't. It's just as fun as his other music and if you take it to be more serious than it is, it isn't really that fun. Overall it has a great musical sound and is a very fun song. When Al makes a song that changes pace ("I should be there on broadway..." comes to mind) it just shows his diversity in how he molds the musical structure of a song. Great work again Al!
cracks me up!
by Mii-Wii JM9Weird Al is is halarious. "skipper Dan" is awesome and so is the music video. Al is a great, great, great comedian!
Skipper Dan is an AWESOME song!
by jasondlndThis is Weird Al at his best! This song sounds like the story of my early adult life. I studied theater in college and even got my degree in it, but only got so far as working in Entertainment at that magical park in California. Thankfully, I didn't work the Jungle Cruise during my time there (I think I would have gone insane), but my job there did pay the rent and allowed me to perform.
Al did a great job on this single, including jokes like "The Backside of Water" and "The hippos are only dangerous when wiggling their ears", amongst others. Those who are Disneyland fans will definitely appreciate it, and those who LIVED it (so to speak) will get an even bigger kick out of it. I definitely encourage everyone to download this single.
