Excellent!
by lucentgemI agree that this album has a sense of nostalgia attached to it. I love the whole thing and it's one of those you can listen to over and over again. Worth the $, I highly recommend purchasing this.
I can't stop listening to this album!
by Doctor MacI can't stop listening to "Let It Burn" by The Atomic Love Bombs. With its subtle echoes of so many of the bands I love -- Moody Blues (when they were awesome), Seeds (but more polished), Amboy Dukes (but more refined), Strawberry Alarm Clock (but less cheesy), Yardbirds, Jefferson Airplane, Eric Burdon & the Animals, Kinks, Stones, and yes, even the Beatles -- this album just blows my mind.
While reminiscent of the best psychedelic pop/rock of the late '60s and early 70s, The Atomic Love Bombs' music is unique and original. The songs are skillfully crafted with jangly acoustic guitar work offset by searing fuzz-laden lead riffs. The vocals are heartfelt; the vocal harmonies sublime. And it's all pulled together in a polished production that's just perfect for these songs.
I've listened to the whole album at least five times in the past two days and I still can't wait to listen to it some more.
In a word, this album ROCKS!
Fine debut from an awesome psychedelic pop band
by flarghI saw these cats live last winter and have been waiting for the album since then, and it's been totally worth the wait. A very psych-pop sound that reminds me alternately of The Velvet Underground, the Brian Jonestown Massacre (in fact, the album's title track is dedicated to that band's founder) and some of the shoegazer rock that emerged from the U.K. in the late 80s and early 90s. If you like modern psych-pop like Animal Collective, Of Montreal, The Warlocks and such, you'll find a lot to love here.
Production for an indie release is pretty tight. There's a lot of delicate craftsmanship in the songwriting and the presentation, and it comes through in the mix. It's great stuff for some introspection and mellowing out. One word of warning, though -- the album, as good as it is, fails to capture the insane wall of sound these guys create in their live shows. If they're playing a gig near you, check them out.
