Album Review

Warped Tour darlings Set Your Goals garnered a strong fanbase through non-stop touring, opening shows for the likes of Anti-Flag, Saves the Day, and All Time Low. This Will Be The Death of Us found the San Francisco-based pop-punkers newly signed to the Epitaph label, which resulted in a step up production-wise. With a crisp, clean, snap-tight sound, the band charges though 12 tracks of speedy, energetic, literate hardcore often reminiscent of smart-punks Bad Religion and All. "Like You and Me" is full of honest introspection ("I want to learn from mistakes") while the hard-rocking "Equals" assures fans that the band is just like them ("that voice behind the verses/is still so far from perfect"). Throughout, Set Your Goals' mature, positive attitude meshes well with the music's youthful exuberance, resulting in a straight-edge themed album that is both musically captivating and refreshingly non-preachy.

Honestly...How Could You Top MUTINY!?!?!

Give this record more than one chance!!! At First there is a definite shock of change...but the more you listen the more you hear that Mutiny sound!!! True tho there r some songs on here that I wish they didnt make but overall this album is Heavier and Way More Produced..but give it a chance to grow on you and you will realize SYG is still the same!!!

shouldn't even be wasting my time.

Honestly, this album is god awful. Its almost hard to stomach considering this band was once up in my favorites. After hearing this excuse of a follow up to Mutiny, i cant help but wonder what compelled the same dudes who claimed they would never give in to the cliche, and always stay true (every lyric in the title song, Mutiny!) to write such a mediocre album? Its as if they were torn between writing some more good tunes or catering to people who crave cheesy riffs and bad vocals. In that perspective, its a serious bummer knowing these guys had such a better album in them. There are some songs (The Fallen, in particular) where you can sense better ideas brewing, but the long and short is that they didn't take the time to develop anything solid. There are bits and pieces of something great, but in the end it seems SYG decided to take the road HEAVILY traveled and play it terribly safe. What could've been a contender for album of the year, turns into another album/band everyone is going to forget as soon as the next one comes along.

Not like Mutiny! - But it's not supposed to be.

by It's a Riff. Learn what it means.

This is an alright album - I do think it's a little too cleanly processed than the Set Your Goals I came to know and love - but that comes with better recording equipment! I'm still getting used to This Will Be The Death of Us (don't get me wrong, there are a few incredible songs - Gaia Bleeds is absolutely fantastic), but Mutiny! will always be my favorite.
