On this Boston emo quartet’s 2009 sophomore outing “Heart Heart Heartbreak” opens like the grand finale of a fireworks display, launching melodies that explode with barbed hooks, auto-tuned vocals and a hyper-glossy production. The anthemic title-track comes out punching with a four-on-the-floor disco beat and Martin Johnson’s in-your-face vocals mixed right upfront to sound like he’s trying to crawl out of your speakers. Emo stalwarts might be somewhat vexed to find Boys Like Girls veering away from the genre’s blueprints on this album, but you have to give the band props for flirting with the revival of ‘80s AOR pop/rock (whether they’re conscious of it or not) — “She’s Got a Boyfriend Now” recalls Bryan Adams’ penchant for nostalgic narratives crossed with an impassioned chorus reminiscent of “Jessie’s Girl”-era Rick Springfield. And the riff-rocking, synth-laced “Real Thing” plays almost as triumphantly as Survivor’s 1982 cinematic hit “Eye of the Tiger.” Taylor Swift makes a surprising but extremely fitting cameo with a stellar duet on the burning ballad “Two Is Better Than One.”

by xthunderhawk.girlxoh, BLG, what happened to you? musically this album is all right (first album was better), but lyrically it's just whiny. not many (if any) of the songs seem to have much real depth at all. i miss the emo-powered, but never over the top, music that boys like girls had on their first album. this album is okay for that background junk food that doesn't take much real thought, but it's not as thought-provoking as their debut album. their single, "love drunk", definitely is a song with reminiscence of their old sound, but it's the only one on the album.

by Christina <3's BLG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!okay, im a HUGE and i mean HUGE blg fan, but this albulm is kinda buggin me, blg is still my fav band but i just keep wishing that this albulm was filled with the depressing but upbeat and happy blg sound. im just listening to their old stuff for now and hoping that the next albulm will be more like their old sound. overall buy the albulm, you will most likely like it. oh, and putting taylor swift in the albulm, BAD IDEA. click [yes] if you agree

AMAZING!

1. Heart Heart Heartbreak 7/10 - Not that I didn't like it. It's just not my favorite. The tune didn't apeal to me too much.
2. Love Drunk 10/10 - This was a really good choice for a single. It's one of my favorites on this CD! It has good lyrics and it is just one of those songs you can put on repeat on night.
3. She's Got a Boyfriend Now 8/10 - I liked this song. But it wasn't the best song on the album. I really liked it for a week or so but after that it wasn't as good.
4. Two is Better Than One 8.5/10 - Really cute track! At frist, when I heard Taylor Swift, I was like what the heck? But it didn't turn out that bad. I love the lyrics to this song. It's very relaxing.
5. Contagious 10/10 - One of the BEST songs on the album. Just like Love Drunk, it's one of my favorites. It's very original to their Boys Like Girls sound and it's fast and fun to sing or tap along to.
6. Real Thing 7/10 - It's like Heart Heart Heartbreak. It wasn't the best. But I don't hate it. It just didn't apeal to me.
7. Someone Like You 8.5/10 - I really like this track. I liked it equally as much as I love Two Is Better Than One. It's more acoustic and slows down the album a bit.
8. Shot Heart 'Round the World 7/10 - Not the best. But it wasn't too bad. I like the chrous but that's the only part that apealed to me.
9. The First One 10/10 - One of my favorites! I just cannot pick from this one, Love Drunk, and Contagious. They're all very good! This is a more acoustic/slower song with very cute lyrics.
10. Chemicals Collide 9/10 - I love this song too! I didn't like it much the first time I heard it. It takes a couple listen. It has a really good chorus that I love.
11. Go 8/10 - This song is kind of strange. I like the first 4 minutes of the song but at the end, they were trying to make the CD sound longer or something. They had 2 minutes of nothing but violin and guitar and just plain music that nulled me to sleep. There were no vocals at the end. I hated the last part of the song with no vocals.
> Overall this album is a very good listen, with cute lyrics, and really catchy tracks!
