I have several friends in the LA Phil. and they loved Esa. His last regular concert there was literally a 15 minute ovation that members told me that they have never, EVER seen anything like that in their lives. Very much beloved Director. The future is bright too!

This isn't Salonen's best effort and I'm a fan of the Pekka. It's a shockingly stale rendering but perhaps it's because he hasn't don't much of this repitoire in the past. It's careful playing but doesn't evince the impressions that the score calls for. I'd be willing to hear him have a second go at this once he's become comfortable with the subilties of the music. Salonen is a great guy and conductor and he's taken the LA to new heights but he's sort of missed it on this one. - Bz

Thanks to Salonen, the LA Phil is now one of the worlds best orchestras and listening to this recording proves to me exactly why they are! The strings play so sensitively and the woodwinds play with such character! A must have recording! Well done.
