Austrian Death Machine is the sidesplitting side project of Tim Lambesis, frontman for As I Lay Dying. His vision is that thrash metal this brutal must somehow relate to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s most savage celluloid characters. In addition to naming the songs after Schwarzenegger quotes and themes (“I Need Your Clothes Your Boots And Your Motorcycle,” ”Allow Me To Break The Ice“), Lambesis also landed an Arnold impersonator to pepper Double Brutal with various skits. Sure the jokes about terminators, barbarians and missions to Mars get old before the 24th and final track on this double album, but you’ll hardly notice because most of these lyrics are screamed gutturally with those prerequisite Cookie Monster inflections of the metalcore genre. Lambesis also breaks up the monotony with some stellar covers of punk and metal songs that have been used in various Schwarzenegger soundtracks. A pummeling portrayal of Judas Priest’s fetish anthem “Hell Bent for Leather” takes the cake, but fans of vintage Metallica are sure to dig ADM’s fierce execution of “Trapped Under Ice.”

by NerdlingerThis is just an incredible side project from AILD...Brutal thrash'esque music with the addition of more hilarious Ahhnold moments....just AWESOME!!!! GET IT NOW, DO IT, DO IT. I swear I sprouted chest and back hair and my balls dropped to my knees and an energy gate opened to Kalifornia and the man himself Ahhhhhnold appeared. Amazing s*^T.

by DrPhdIt’s rare for a sequel to live up to its predecessor. People have expectations that the sequel will have everything they love about the first one and then some. Double Brutal not only manages to deliver what made Total Brutal such a wonderful album, it throws Total Brutal into a semi and then blows it up with a tank while suspended from a helicopter that’s fighting pterodactyls. The main attraction is the songs inspired by quotes from Arnie’s movies. Double Brutal has classics like: let off some steam and give me your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle. However, it’s the added bonus tracks that really make this album. It’s one thing to cover a Judas Priest song; it’s an entirely different thing to do with Arnie. If you loved Total Brutal you’re going to love Double Brutal. It’s an all out onslaught of everything that makes metal awesome.
