iTunes Review

Beauty Will Rise is an album born out of tragedy. Written and recorded in response to the death of his five year-old daughter Maria, Steven Curtis Chapman seeks a way to transcend his grief and strengthen his faith over the course of its 12 tracks. In contrast to the unbridled Christian optimism typifying most of his work, the songs here deal frankly with despair, avoiding easy answers. Chapman’s songs to and about Maria — especially “Just Have to Wait” and “February 20th” — are sadly beautiful, built around his plaintive, slightly breathless voice and sparse acoustic accompaniment. His conversations with God — “Heaven Is the Face,” “Questions,” “I Will Trust You” — are remarkable for their honesty and humble wisdom. As he confronts his own anguish, he speaks to the suffering of others in the stark, hymn-like “Jesus Will Meet You There.” The solace of “Spring Is Coming” closes the album on a note of renewal without denying the pain that preceded it. Chapman sings these songs with a quiet intensity that’s both riveting and heartrending.

Anyone who has experienced a loss ...

by Scoop44

For anyone grieving a loss and clinging to find hope to carry on, this is a composition of a heart and soul that validates human pain and doubt, but takes one to an end that sustains and promises hope is here at the crossroads of our loss. The music and the message is God sent.

I was very exited when I heard Steven Curtis Chapman was coming out with a new album cause my family had been listening to him for years, but I'm disappointed with his new album because none of the songs are uplifting in any way, every time you listen to one of the songs you just feel depressed.

AWESOME

I have waited to long for a new SCC album. After going through all of that suffering this is a gret album to write.
