iTunes Review

Tegan and Sara form a powerful pop-rock duo who are just as likely to challenge their sound with jagged punctuating instrumentation as they are to give into the seductive sway of their best melodies. 2009’s Sainthood again pairs the Canadian duo with producer Chris Walla. But unlike their combination on The Con, where the twin sisters veered ever closer to mature adult-contemporary terrain, Sainthood sends them into the fast, frenetic world of electrified rock for their most excited, full-stereo-rific album to date. The abrasive edge of “Arrow” gives way to the high-speed chase pop of “Hell,” the punkish rake of “Northshore” and the spacey new- wave synth-drop of “Night Watch.” The sisters’ great mix of tempos and styles, spanning from the late-‘70s to modern-day, lead to timeless chaos. The robotic beats of “Alligator,” the spastic slink of “Paperback Head,” the teen ramble of “On Directing,” and the speedfreak chants of “The Ocean” make for an album of vibrant pop.

New Terrain for Tegan and Sara

by Rashidtallguy

Upon first playing this album, my immediate reaction was "What the hell is this". I remember instantly feeling rage for Chris Walla for "ruining" the sound of tegan and sara that I had grown accustomed to. After Listening to it a second, and third time I had noticed while not listening to the album I'd hear the lyrics and grooves from alot of the songs thumping in my head. Turned out it was a totally new Tegan and Sara I was listening to, and I totally fallen for it. The music as a whole (drums, bass guitar, guitar, electric guitar!!!, and keys) all fit together as they should, unlike in previous albums where the drums and bass kind of felt pasted on to me. Some Stand out tracks Hell there single is really a catchy upbeat rock song, not folky at all. The song Night Watch really hit me in the gut, love this song inside and out, has some rush synth going on there heh. Alligator a sentimental piano and drum driven tune, absolutely adorable. I say just give the album a couple listens and you'll be smitten by it too! My hat off to Tegan and Sara for evolving beautifully.

Nice for a change, but still...

I must say that when I first heard the whole album, maybe two songs kind of jumped at me. After listening to this record more and more times, the songs began to grow on me. This was way different than their previous records for me, because I absolutely loved them the first time I listened to them. I think that this album was nice for a change, but their old stuff is the best. I'm just as big a fan as ever, and look forward to what's next!!
