iTunes Review
For the first half of the 1990s, the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed as one of the era’s most efficient party bands, turning Van Halen’s California hard pop rock into a funky maelstrom that eyeballed hip-hop while staying true to its own guitar-based attack. This collection bypasses their earlier efforts in the mid-80s to begin with 1989’s Mother’s Milk and the ensuing hits that established their reputation (their cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground,” “Give It Away,” ‘Under the Bridge”) along with several non-LP rarities, “Soul to Squeeze” from the Coneheads movie soundtrack and two newly recorded tracks (“Fortune Faded,” “Save the Population”) that slide into the mix without a hiccup. Only “My Friends,” the lone cut from their one album (1995’s One Hot Minute) with Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro — a marriage that did not work — sounds out of place, making the strongest case yet that the band collectively were always more than their parts. Guitarist John Frusciante is simply too important to the band’s sound — as his fluid licks to later tracks (“Scar Tissue,” “Californication”) after he had rejoined the group clearly prove.

The Best RHCP Greatest Hits Album Ever!!
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have gone through a complete reincarnation since the 80s. This latest greatest hits album covers the more mellow Californication and beyond Peppers. Two of the best songs on the record are not even yet greatest hits. Fortune Faded and Save the Population are both incredible examples of how Flea and Frusciante (one of the most underrated guitarists ever) have been able to combine thier incredible talents. Also impressive is the vocal ending of Save the Population. Few bands have ever been able to make such a dramatic change in thier music style. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are simply incredible.
THE APPLE ITUNES REVIEW IS FOR THE WRONG GREATEST HITS COLLECTION!!!!
Amazing band, amazing album, but something's missing!
The Chili Peppers are and have been my favorite band, through and through, and I bought this album as soon as it hit the shelves. However, I was extremely disappointed to discover that they had left off everything pre-Mother's Milk and everything from the Dave Navarro era. They also left out greats such as 'Can't Stop', which I could almost consider a crime. But they did a good job with what they had, such as throwing on my favorite Pepper song, if not favorite song ever, "Soul to Squeeze". I highly recommend this album, and hope that iTunes will soon have the rest of the Chili Pepper's amazing albums in the library asap!
