So far ahead of their time...
by xxemmyEvery Queensryche album is an evolution. The first four albums were groundbreaking and unique. Even today, there are no bands that have the unique sound of Queensryche. Rage for Order was so far ahead of its time it was overlooked in some cases until much later when Queensryche hit critical mass with Operation Mindcrime and Empire. To the Queensryche faithful, Rage is coveted as a gem of tasty thought provoking songs that are 1 bit sci fi, 1 bit Heavy Metal, and 1 bit sonic novel. Start to finish... Brilliant. Notable faves, Screaming in digital, London, Neue Regal, gonna get close to you (which keeps its Metal Edge in a song that could have been done by Nine Inch Nails a decade later with a sense of newness.
Buy it... treasure it... if you don't "get it" you don't get Queensryche... just move on to your safe Poison album and let us be...
Groundbreaking
by BrianTristan'Rage for Order' was "commercially unsuccessful" and so the new musical direction on this album was largely abandoned by the band. This was cemented with the release, and commercial success of the follow up to 'Rage for Order' ('Operation: Mindcrime'). Sort of unfortunate, but musicians do have to make money while they can. The albums proceeding 'Rage for Order' were fine pieces of work, but it was not until this album that the band truly came into its own; nobody else could have written or played the songs on this album, it is strictly a Queensrÿche creation. The album predates most of the fusion of Heavy Metal with other forms of music, and the inclusion of a great deal of what is on this album, released in 1986, of all kinds of musical ideas foreign to Heavy Metal at the time, makes this a very influential work. Had the direction here been adhered to, Queensrÿche may have been as groundbreaking as NIN or Rage Against The Machine in the realm of Hard or Heavy Rock, but they went in a different direction afterward (with 'Operation: Mindcrime'). Although there are some nods to the 'Rage for Order' approach on 1990's 'Empire', this piece of work stands by itself in stark contrast to anything else released in the mid 1980's. This is a masterpiece, and the direction here was abandoned by the band, so there is only one 'Rage for Order', and it is an amazing thing to listen to over 20 years later. Truly groundbreaking, and not enough credit has even been given to how "way before it's time" this release actually was. A band could form now and take up this approach, and they would be showered with praise, but 'Rage for Order' has never gotten it's due. Ever. I am happy for the band and their commercial success they had after this album ('Operation: Mindcrime' & 'Empire), but honestly they leave me flat as compared to this one.
Simply brilliant and timeless......
by StinasdadI'm not even going to comment on the ridiculousness of the Itunes review. I think I may have listened to Rage for Order more than anyone on this planet. Quite simply just a brilliant piece of work, and one of my favorite albums of all time. This music still holds up totally......the strong lyrics and tight musicianship just set them apart from what was going on in the music scene in the 80s.....they should not even be mentioned in the same breath as the hair bands of that era (Poison, Motley Crue, Ratt, etc...)......they were a very different breed of music to me. My fingers always find their way back to RFO and Operation: Mindcrime on my IPOD. Two of the best albums eva!!!!
