Works great after you fix your firewall
If iTunes lets you enter the passcode, but then seems to go dumb and won't let your iphone/ipod connect, change your Mac/PC firewall to allow incoming connections for iTunes. On a Mac: from the menu select System Preferences/Security/Firewall then pick "Set access for specific services and applications". Then click the "+" and find/select iTunes in your Applications folder and click "Add". Then make sure the setting next to iTunes says "Allow incoming connections"
Very cool use of iPhone "iPod" persona as remote control
Very clever! This appears to re-use a lot of the interface already worked out to support the iPod features of an iPhone or iPod touch, but modified to remotely control an instance of iTunes in your local network. The controls are obvious and intuitive because they are the same controls you're already used to with your iPhone.
Requires iTunes 7.7 or later to recognize the remote as a new item in your DEVICES category in iTunes, and then a simple randomly generated PIN code links the iPhone/touch to the iTunes. Interface features like album art are sent to the iPhone/touch from itunes to complete the user experience. There is little if any network latency, and all the controls (with the exception of coverflow mode) appear to work just as you'd expect, but remotely controlling your iTunes (or Apple TV) system rather than the "onboard" music library.
This just couldn't be easier to use. I will admit to being late to work because I found this application to be too much fun to play with.
Mac User
I found this application totally frustrating. I opened it. The instructions said "Choose a library." I clicked that. Then the instructions said "Open iTunes and select iPhone from the Devices list." So! Then what? I tried this on both the iPhone and on my iMac. No further instructions or indication of any Remote connection in iTunes on either device. What's the secret? And why is there a secret?
