NYT great ap
This ap is great. I think what some people don't realize when complaining of slow speed is that it is actually loading up a whole day or more of articles and you are able to still read them even when you don't have cell or wifi service available like in a subway or on an airplane. So if you just give it sent time to download in the morning you are good to go!
Great Application. Needs Some Work.....
I'm an enthusiastic NYT reader and read the mobile web version from my iPhone daily. This application is a pretty good start. It uses the basic iPhone UI, and you can edit the four tiles at the bottom of the screen. The primary advantage to using this application, instead of the NYT website, is that the application downloads alll the stories; enabling you to read the paper offline (e.g., airplane mode or "no service'). NYT has already updated this app once to reduce the size of the ad, and I'm hoping they'll continue to improve it. The two major problems are that the stories don't appear to be updated regularly. When you compare the stories on the website with the application after it's been "updated", most of the current news stories don't appear in the application. So, if you're only interested in late breaking stories, stick with the website. Also, as noted by almsot everyone, the current update process is very, very sllooowwww. I have been updating in the morning, and it has been taking at least 3 to 5 minutes (over wifi) to retrieve the stories. Also of note is that if you go into the iphone settings, you can change the number of days of news that the application stores (1 - 7 days). Overall, it's a keeper, but I'm hoping to see another update soon.....
This could be great, but it isn't ready.
This application looks very appealing and has the functions laid out well, but it does not yet perform properly. Loading is VERY slow even on broadband connected WiFi. Some of the thumbnail images for articles don't load at all (the normal NYT website is rendered perfectly and fully in much less time).
