Cleartune is a chromatic instrument tuner and pitch pipe that allows you to quickly and accurately tune your instrument using the built-in mic in your iPhone or using an external mic on your 2nd or 3rd generation iPod Touch.

Note:
iPod Touch 2nd and 3rd gen requires an external microphone - see http://bitcount.com/cleartune/ipod.html for details. The tuning function is not compatible with the original 1st generation iPod Touch.

Cleartune features a unique "note wheel" interface allowing you to quickly find your pitch, paired with a highly responsive fine-tuning meter for the perfect tune.

With support for custom temperaments, transposition, notations such as solfège, adjustable calibration and more, Cleartune packs more power than most pro tuners, yet is simple enough for everyone to use.

Cleartune can tune acoustic or electric guitar, bass, bowed strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, tympani, tablas and any other instrument that can sustain a tone.

Visit http://bitcount.com/cleartune/tips.html for tips to help you tune.

WOW!!!

As a regularly performing professional musician with a college degree in music and teacher I would reccomend this product to anyone. The very few complaints I've seen on here seem to be mostly user error. It does calibrate btw. Some people also have accidentally given this one star and written good reviews.

I use this app everyday. In fact I just set the intonation on my 6 string bass in less than 5 minutes with this guy. VERY accurate tuner. Compares to physical tuners ten and twenty times the cost of this one. NOT just for guitar. I tuned an entire jazz band with this very easily. And they were terrible :)

Great design and idea

This application has a great design, beautiful interface, and a wonderful idea behind it. I like that i has a tuner, then a fine tuner. However, I play the flute, and this application can only tune my low register. for anyone who knows anything about flute, you would know that about 40% of my playing is actually done there, maybe less. Therefor, it is limited. Furthermore, it is completely useless when attempting to tune a piccolo. Once the pitch gets high enough, the tuner just starts jumping all over the place, and never hitting what the pitch actually is.

That aside, it works with with tuning other instruments such as guitar. It is also pretty consistent with a stand alone tuner.

This will not replace a stand alone tuner, it works best as something to have incase you need a quick tune and you forgot your tuner at home.

Lastly, certain pitches procure overtones when using the pitch pipe function. The overtones are not accurate, and actually quite annoying. I believe to be either a bug, or an issue with the speakers.

This is a good app, but not a replacement for a stand alone tuner. Enjoy!

Excellent Application for Musicians and Music Educators

I am a high school choir director, licensed to teach vocal, instrumental (band, orchestra), and general music. I am an accomplished tenor and tuba player, and I hold a master's degree (M.A.) and doctorate (Ph.D.) in music education. I have purchased and tried two tuners from the App Store. I only chose those two applications because they were intended to tune all instruments, not just a specific instrument (e.g. guitar). The first version of this application was excellent. The tuner was less "twitchy" than the competition, and it looked visually better. As a choral director, the tone generator had potential as a pitch pipe (and the current pitch pipe options on the App Store are flawed). I took the time to e-mail comments to the creator of this application, and the creator took the time to respond to my feedback, and in the most current version, add the very features I was looking for. The only thing this application currently lacks as a complete tool for music education is the inclusion of a metronome. Otherwise, the tuner works very well, the ability to turn the pitch generator on and off makes that feature applicable for choral music education, and the author also included the ability to switch between tuning systems and display options (sharps, flats, and others), as well as systems used in other countries, transpositions, waveform, and more. In summary, this is a complete application, the author continues to make the product better and listens to suggestions, and this program is a good value, and it should never have to lower its price (check out the price of comparable stand-alone tuners). I would also like to add that I am not employed by the company that produces this application, nor do I know the author of the software. I am a music educator who uses this product, and I recommend it to you.
