Worth All 399 Pennies

This is an initial review for those who are still unsure whether they want to drop $3.99 on a game without trying it first.

Took me about an hour to get fully acclimated to the game. I played through the opening section of the first stage a few times to get used to the way Toy Bot handles.

The Good:

Love the graphics. Swinging with the grappling hook is awesome once you get the hang of it. Puzzles make fantastic use of the iPhone's unique hardware.

Good sound, especially when Toy Bot is in a free-fall. I didn't want to turn off the background music, so that's always welcome.

Fun and entertaining. (Isn't that what it's all about?)

The Bad:

Definitely takes some getting used to. Learning to control Toy Bot is awkward at first (albeit somewhat amusing). Ultimately, though, the controls and gameplay should come together for you after enough time.

Wish controls were a bit tighter; objects tend to slide around, but maybe that's part of the game's strategy. Haven't played far enough to find out.

Camera annoyed me at times, though very infrequently. Sometimes the angle would be so close in on Toy Bot that I'd have to start tapping rapid-fire on the screen's edge to get him/her/it back where he/she/it needed to be.

The Verdict:

Since this is the first iPhone/iTouch game of its kind to be released, I'd say it's a must-buy. Even when the game is frustrating, it's still fun.

Seems to be one of those games that gets better as YOU get better at playing it.

I don't know if Toy Bot will set the standard for games of this kind on the iPhone, but it's definitely a great pickup for $3.99.

Minus one star for minor annoyances that exist even after mastering the controls.

Excellent Game! With Caveat...

The game is very well designed and as other reviewers have mentioned very polished and enjoyable. However the game is dissapointingly short.

It only truly consists of 3 levels plus 1 boss level. True the levels are divided in sectors but each sector is nothing more than a single puzzle. Once you figure out the general gameplay and puzzle designs you can breeze through the game in less than 30 minutes.

I applaud the developer for the exceptional design and immersive gameplay and look forward to follow up episodes.

Bottom line: $3.99 seems a little high for 30-50 minutes of gameplay with limited replay value.

Bionic Mario! Iphones first REAL platformer!!

This is the first sidee scrolling platformer for the iPhone that I can think of! The controls take a little getting used to, but then, you're off! You move him left and right by tilting the screen. Touch any metal object to have him send a grappling hook to attach himself and then tilt the screen back and forth to swing! You also push and pull objects (like quarters) to open doors. The physics are very well done, and it really shows what you can do with an iPhone as far as gaming goes. I am now fully convinced that the iPhone and Ipod Touch are a great gaming device! Lookout DS!
