The app has five windows :
- Contacts
- Smart Groups
- Dialer
- Recent Calls
- Favorites
With Smart Groups you can create dynamic groups based on rules. Contacts will be filed in smart groups automatically. There are five different types of rules and they work on first name, last name, company, notes, job title, department, city, state, country, birthday and events fields, emails and phones.
Rules can be combined to create very powerful filters !
Moreover, since smart groups are used by ABContacts and not synced, Outlook users will be able to create smart groups on the phone that finally does not alter how contacts are shown in Outlook. Check the user's guide to learn all the possibilities.
The dialer is associated with a smart search feature. You can search contacts using the dialer keypad. Spaces and special chars are supported as well as non english letters. Phonetic info are used if present.
You can also speed dial the first nine favorites by pressing and holding the corresponding key down.
Favorites has two view modes: list and photos. You can add, use and manage favorites with the list mode and use them in the photo view.
All feature list does not fit the space available on iTunes, we have too much features :)

To open the Quick Actions double tap on the group name or contact name.
To open the window selector tap on the title bar.
GROUP SMS is available as an option when using a compatible app to send the sms. Please look at the compatible apps on the web site www.redbits.com. If you're using an app for email, sms or phone and you want to use it with ABContacts please ask the developers to contact us.
No VCARD (just simple text email) since we can't send attachment yet with the built-in Mail app.

IMPORTANT: If something is not working for you PLEASE contact the support email. If you just write in reviews we can't understand what the problem is and fix it. We have carefully tested the app but there may exist unexpected conditions and we can't find them if you don't contact us. Moreover is frequent that you simply need to read the guide to solve your issue.
WARNING: Native group management is not supported if you are synching with Exchange.
Synching using iTunes is supported. All other features are supported with any synching method. Smart groups are supported with any synching method.
WARNING: Some users reported crashes when calling a number. This are not related to ABContacts and seems to be caused by corrupted iPhone address book database. Check the support page or contact the support to solve this issue.

Superb contact manager
ABContacts adds much more functionality than the built-in Contacts app. It has the feeling of being where Apple will take Contacts in 3.0. I have over 1600 contacts on my iPod Touch and ABContacts handles them with ease. It shows all the Groups that are in your Mac Address Book and allows for editing of those Groups on the iPhone/Touch. Edits synchronize back to the Mac. In some ways the Groups functionality is better than on the Mac: for instance, you can select a Contact and see which Groups they are a part of and reassign them -- it can be done on the Mac, but with a lot more clicking.
The filters feature is superb. You can do filters on many of the fields to narrow down your selection of contacts. This serves as a very handy way to search fields that the Apple Contacts app does not allow, such as the Notes field. I often cannot remember the name of a contact I need, but can remember other data, such as city or notes I may have added. I now can find them.
The fast contact add screen is also a big improvement over the Apple one -- makes the task not nearly so laborious. Quick action menus, company info in the lists, and the ability to send the contact info via email, are all extra features that are very useful. There are other apps on the App Store that can do each of those things, but this one single app integrates them all extremely nicely.
In summary, this app can be used as a total replacement for the Apple Contacts app. If you feel Contacts is a bit thin on features for your needs, then you will not be disappointed with ABContacts.
Great Application
The negative comments are either over price or problems with the iPhone. Most crashes just need to have the phone reboot and the problem is resolved. The price issue has more to do with Apple's policy for developers than a greedy developer!
This is a great product! I have almost 1,500 contact and it load very quickly. I purchased another application for voice dialing and it takes over 30 seconds to load. The functionality in the program is very good. Andrea has been very responsive to any problems and she has added many new features. I would not hesitate one moment to recommend this application. In fact, I think it is one of the best products in the store.

While I agree I would be a little upset about having bought the first app I also think to many people are WAY to cheap. It's $1.99 people. Most good working software is $20.00 dollars or more. These apps are pennies compared to most.
Now for the review. This app saves me so much time. Apple should have this functionality in it already.
I love the search my notes ability. I have a lot of business related contacts. I use the notes section to add categories. Like "phone vendor" or "friend of tom's" and then after I forget their name etc. I just search for tom in the notes.
Also love the quick entry and being able to add and change groups on my phone.
