Be advised this program has an annoying blacklist anti-piracy feature.
In other to protect their app from piracy they maintain a blacklist (kill switch) so that they can blacklist any phone using their app in an illegal manner. Today I've been a victim of this approach whereby somebody has obtained by device ID and is using it within their cracked app and BeeJive have added my device ID to their blacklist. So having paid $15.99 for this app I'm now paying the price since I've not been able to use it all day and they require you to send them proof of purchase to remove your device ID from the blacklist. Something that I've sent them already but four hours on and I'm still on the blacklist.
Just imagine if every iphone app did this and how inconvenient and annoying it would be to have yourself removed for each vendors blacklist.
The app is well implemented from an instant messaging standpoint and does what it claims but after paying this much for an application I don't expect to be inconvenience like this or have the rug pull from underneath me. I wonder how even when I've sent them proof of purchase how they would keep the app still working for me and how they can stop it for the so called hacker since it's still based on my device ID.
Best IM app out there!!! Well worth the price of admission
As a long time user of beejive's great web app, I had high expectations for their native app and I have to say they certainly met those expectations. The UI is the best of any IM apps out there not to mention some key features such as:
1) It will keep you logged into your configured IM services for up to 24 hours even when you don't have the app running
2) It will notify you via push email (can be to mobileme or yahoo push email account) when a message is received and the app is not running - the email notification also contains a button that when you click on will take you from the mail app directly into beejive.......cool eh
With the two features listed above (which so far has been working perfectly for me), this is the perfect IM app for me. Unlike palringo, does it allow you to send pictures? No, but that's what I use email for. Does it allow you to send voice messages? No, but that's what the phone is for. Does it handle instant messaging reliably? Yes. To me that's all that matters.
Also, the startup time for this app is amazing, buddy lists come up nearly instantaneously, there is no painful "loading" period while the app logs you in and loads buddy lists unlike some of the other IM apps out there. the list of options that you can configure in the settings screen is simply amazing, and shows how much thought the developer put into this app.
At $16 it is pricey, however, if you want the best, this is it. I also do hope the developer DOES NOT reduce the price significantly in order to ensure that beejive's servers aren't overwhelmed in the future by the masses who are just looking for cheap applications. The developer designed and implemented a great app and deserves to be paid a premium for it as compared to all the other crap apps on the app store.
I'm sure glad that apple changed their app review policy to only allow purchasers of an app to write reviews since this is exactly the type of app at its price point that would have attracted the idiots and morons to whine and rail against this app for its price tag without even trying the app. I am here to say right now that this app is well worth the price tag and is one of only a couple of apps that I have given 5 stars too!!!
A bit pricey, but worth it
I was an early tester, and then a happy customer of their IM application for the Blackberry. When I saw a version available for the iPhone, I hesitated maybe a minute or two before hitting the "buy" button. I'm not disappointed. If you have multiple IM accounts to manage across multiple protocols, this is a fantastic application. It's pretty, easy to use and reliable. Looking forward to seeing the developers improve the functionality over time as they did with the Blackberry app, which only got better and better.
