Groundspeak's Geocaching Application provides real-time, direct access to Geocaching.com's database of worldwide geocaches.
Application features include:

- Ability to log geocache finds and submit field notes to geocaching.com
- Search by current location (iPhone 3G and 3GS), address or geocache lookup code

- Filter hides and finds from search results using your geocaching.com account
- Navigate to geocaches with a simulated compass arrow (iPhone 3G and 3GS only)
- Look up trackable item details, including item goals and descriptions, while on the trail
- Access recently generated geocaching pocket queries (geocaching.com Premium Members only)
- Embedded web browser for viewing geocache web pages on geocaching.com without leaving the application.

A good start
Like everyone else, I've been anticpating this app ever since Groundspeak put it up on their website. And finally, I saw it was ready for download. I use the iPod Touch so I didn't know if it would do much for me or not. But it does enable me to look up caches anywhere I have WiFi, but then again--I could just use the Touch to go onto geocaching.com and get the same info. However, this downloads all the most important info into the Touch so you can go paperless. Just remember to "save" before turning it off so that it's still there when you're out of WiFi range. So all in all--I think this is well worth the price. And like everyone else, I'll be looking forward to future upgrades.
Extremely Disappointing
I was eagerly awaiting this app and downloaded as soon as I could. I was immediately struck by all the things the app can't do. You can't filter out your previous finds. You can't log your finds in the field. You can't use it to plan trips. Geopher lite is much more powerful than this app. The only disadvantage to Geopher is that you have to manually enter the coordinates, but that is because of the restrictions that Groundspeak has placed on that developer.
If you want to do everything while you are in the field with this application, you will have to log onto Geocaching.com and enter the cache number to pull up its page and enter your comments. So, you're going to have to do something manually, regardless of whether you are using Geocaching or Geopher Lite. Save yourself $8.00 and use Geopher Lite until Groundspeak makes their application ready for primetime.
Absolutely the Best App in the Store
This is the killer app. The one that finally makes geocaching available to the masses. Simple, intuitive and shows that a ton of work must have gone into development. If you have never geocached, it is one of the best hobbies that you can participate in with your family. All around you - in every state and around the world, people have hidden treasures for you to hunt, find, log - take a prize and leave one for the next person to find. There are thousands upon thousands of them - but they are hidden from sight. This application lets you participate in on one of the best kept secret unknown hobbies. Not only that, but since you have already bought the phone, the hobby is super inexpensive. Just remember to be discreet and not let the muggles catch you - don't want to ruin the treasures for all of us seekers. I would pay $30 for this application and still not complain for all the hours of entertainment that is now available for my family simply by carrying around my phone.
