FUN GAME, but could use a few more tweaks!
I think the game itself is great right now; however, there are a couple of minor tweaks that I think should be considered.
1 - I know the towers shoot at the first target in sight and keep attacking that one until out of range, then proceeding to hit the next one. I'm not sure about if they try to target the weaker ones first, but if they don't, they should.
2- The green goo towers should apply the goo to a single target, and then try to apply it to one that isn't affected by current goo. This way, all the targets would be hit with goo, and there would be less hassle in spacing out the towers or having multiple goo towers applying the same target, thereby wasting it while another target goes by.
3 - More tower choices and playing field backgrounds (just for variety, but it looks like these are already on the way)
4 - A bar to the side that shows current / next runners or set rounds in the instructions so we would know whats coming up... not that we can't just pause it on the first guy and then prepare then, but it would be a nice convienience.
5 - The ability to convert towers into other towers. Example: You have an upgraded rocket that costs 20 + 15 + 15 = 50 $ total. You could convert this into a different tower type for the remainder of the cost + $10 fee. So if you wanted to make it into an ion tower, you would pay 20$ (50 + 20 = 70) plus an additional 10$ fee for conversion. This would allow for easier transitions into harder phases... such as going from normal runners to helicopters, you might need rockets for long range over the medium range of the ion tower.
* No downgrading, you might as well just sell the tower and build the cheaper one.*
6 - Terrain - Have the ability to lay water puddles on certain spots to help with the slowing down of massive troops (this would be similar to having goo towers target multiple targets instead of sticking to one until out of range.) If this isn't to your liking and could be unfair, you could put terrain obstacles, such as mountain passes or roads, in which, depending on the type, could either help or hurt the field runners ( mountains slow them down, but provide cover for the runners, so they would get more defense while roads speed it up, but offer less protection, so the enemies would be
weaker while on them). You could even make it so certain towers cannot shoot through the mountains / forests / whatever.
7 - Weather - You could have weather conditions randomly appear throughout levels or for certain levels be the same the whole time for extra challenges and therefore more points. ( A cold front could slow runners down, while a clear sky could speed helicopters up.) Things like that would offer replay value.
8 - Call in reinforcements - You could have reinforcements that come in and bomb a certain area of squares in case things get really bad on the field. Those could include artillery strikes, anti-air raids, or even complete destruction of every field runner on the map. These would have to be considered carefully though as they could make for easy gameplay if found to be too cheap. Or maybe put them on a timer, use once every X rounds.
9 - Bonuses and Limitations- Recieve bonuses for no units lost during a single round, unlock some of the previously mentioned stuff for doing challenges, or perhaps on certain maps use some of these mentioned things while on others limit stuff like towers and money gained per unit.
All of these variables would add extreme complexity to the game and would make for a very, very challenging and addictive game. If even a few of these things were mentioned, I would pay another $5 for the extra features.
Overall though, a very great game, keep in the good work Subatomic Studios!
From near perfection to utter fail
What was once easily the greatest tower defense game on I-tunes has now become nothing more than a greedy attempt to force dedicated fans to pay again for an app that they've already purchased.
new update is greedy
tacky move for an otherwise great program, and now I have to start all over to unlock the original maps. awesome.
paying for the extra maps is also lame, you should be working on expanding your fanbase, not gouging the existing one.
change it (make the updates free, this additional map fee crap is lame) or lose yet another person's interest and continue driving this game's stats into the ground.
here's a thought: charge more for the game. I paid 4.99 for this when it came out, and didn't regret it. It's OK to charge a little more up front instead of adding maps and charging for those individually.
