REVIEW | "A couple of years ago, a Mac OS X application came along and blew my socks off. Now, the company behind Papers, Mekentosj, has done it again, this time by bringing its killer app to the iPhone in a timely manner. It doesn't disappoint." -- Ars technica, ★★★★★
"When I found Papers on the app store, I realized that I had found a solution that was not only easier, but helped me conduct research in ways I didn't even know I needed with a mobile device." -- WhatsoniPhone.com, ★★★★★
OVERVIEW | Papers was redesigned from scratch to be a perfect and beautiful fit to the iPhone and iPod touch. Browse through the hundreds of articles in your library with the flick of a finger, lookup the papers written by a certain author or published in that well-known journal, organize your library in collections and add your rating or flag great works. Papers comes with a stunning PDF viewer built-in, and of course allows you to add your thoughts and notes to the articles you read, all at the spot, wherever you happen to be.
But what if you forgot to add that one paper? Or you want to check out what's new this week? Papers comes with 8 built-in search engines that give you access to millions of articles at any time: ACM, NASA-ADS, arXiv, Google Scholar, IEEE Xplore, JSTOR, Pubmed, and Web of Science. Search the world's largest repositories, visit the publisher's websites and even download new PDFs to your library and start reading straight away, it's that simple. And you can even wirelessly exchange articles with other Papers for iPhone and iPod touch users as well, or send an email to your friends and colleagues to tell them about your new findings and ideas.
And last but not least, Papers of course synchronizes wirelessly with Papers on your Mac. But also if you use a PC or don't use Papers on the Mac it works great as a stand-alone application. It even allows you to do online backups of your library for free!
With Papers for iPhone and iPod touch, the world's knowledge is never more than the flick of a finger away. Your personal library of Science, in your pocket.

The best os x research tool is now an iphone app!
Papers is is an essential application for any researcher who uses a mac. It is simply the best way to organize research papers, essentially doing for your pdfs what itunes does for your music. The fact that it checks in with arxiv, pubmed, etc. for metadata and that you can search those repositories makes it a fantastically useful program. I eagerly awaited the release of an iphone/ipod touch version. As is the case with the os x version, this app is extremely well done.
There are many iphone apps that claim to help with productivity, but this is one of the few that actually will help you be more productive. Thank you for your wonderful products.
Simply incredible.
I am so excited to see this, and to see it done so excellently.
When showing off the desktop app to my peers, I always describe Papers as being in every way "iTunes for your research library." The analogy is just so complete: Papers facilitates storage, organization, finding & importing (through databases), playback (viewing), and sharing of PDF files. The only missing component of the analogy was the companion "iPod for your research library," and now we have that too, in a big way.
I now have nearly half a gig of my literature archive in my pocket available for viewing for whenever I need it. That's all I would have expected from a version 1.0 app, and for this I would have gladly paid whatever price Mekentosj asked. But it does way more -- I can add to my library on the go through the built-in Google Scholar (+more dbs) access, share papers with other users, email citations, and even backup & restore my library via Amazon. I'm very impressed with how fully-featured and polished this app is on initial release.
Simply awesome. Thank you, Tom & Alex. Thank you.
Papers for iphone
I have used Papers on my mac for years now. It is by far the number one used application on my machine and the largest boost to my productivity and organization ( I am a phd student in computational mathematics for context). Papers for the iPhone has been one of my dream apps, since even before the iPhone was itself dreamed of. All of my papers, all of my research, all of my notes, with me at all times in my pocket! Perfection!
To be honest, it is my opinion that the power of Papers for the iPhone is fully unleashed when paired with the desktop version. On it's own, it would be quite useful, just not "game-changing" as the two versions are in parallel.
Two small nitpicks (which I hope will be included in future releases). The iPhone version does not (yet)
have a text search feature, which is one of the most used features on the desktop version. Scanning multiple
pdf's on a small screen for a single proof or definition is difficult. Also, I wish that
it were possible to print directly from the iPhone to at the minimum Bonjour printers on a given network.
Overall, if you deal with hundred/thousands of pdfs every day and have a mac + papers, buy this app right now! If you
have a mac, but have yet to use papers, buy both versions right now! If you have a PC, then buy a mac and then buy both versions of papers. You won't be disappointed.
