Customer Reviews
Only for iPhone
Not for iPod Touch bc it needs Internet connection from 3G or EDGE, not Wi-Fi from iPod Touch.
Not very useful for iPod Touch - if only they...
On the iPod Touch you need to have Wi-Fi in order to find a Wi-Fi hotspot. So, if you are looking for the nearest Wi-Fi access point, the problem is obvious.
They could make it better if they added the ability to cache search results. Then, you could pre-load it (at home or in the hotel) for the areas you're planning to be in. But, since it doesn't have a feature like that, it fails the chicken/egg test.
The bookmark feature isn't an adequate substitute.
Green vs. Blue
All right, here is the lowdown with JiWire Inc’s 2 free Wi-Fi apps.
“Wi-Fi Finder” was launched first in December of 08’ and has compiled a listing of 235,804 Wi-Fi hot spots in 135 countries, a large number of them in the U.S.
“Global FREE Wi-Fi” is the newer of the two and appears to be designed primarily for other countries. It lists only 10,000 Wi-Fi hot spots in 135 countries.
Now after trying both on my iPod Touch I have found that “Wi-Fi Finder” provided me with 3 times more listings for my area.
What JiWire Inc. should have done was just upgraded the original app.
Some Wi-Fi hot spots listed in my area were listed as cost when I know for a fact that they are free.
One other thing, both apps are free. I can’t stand people complaining about something they get for free.
