FiRe is the world’s first professional field recorder built exclusively for iPhone and iPod touch, brought to you by the minds at Audiofile Engineering. It’s the first iPhone recorder to display an accurate audio waveform in real time, the first to support markers, Broadcast WAVE metadata, and the instant downloading of files in multiple file formats. FiRe was the first application on any platform to offer native SoundCloud integration. FiRe 1.3.0 brings even more firsts including input processing effects Powered by iZotope and the ability to publish a Podcast directly from your iPhone, even converting markers to chapters.

We highly recommend Blue Mikey (http://www.hearmikey.com) for stereo recording!

IMPORTANT: FiRe does not support sample rates lower than 11.025 kHz. Thus, recording and playback will not work with the internal microphone & speakers on a first generation iPhone. You must use the headset.

- added input gain and overview in Transport
- improved SoundCloud integration including picture, location and contact notification
- fixed a crash when the recording prefix and suffix were both empty
- improved localization support

Great, but...

FiRe is an amazingly good-looking and efficient audio recording application, hands-down the best so far, but... if you want to use this for podcasting or, as in my case, broadcasting, this software is lacking two indispensible tools: basic editing and basic compressing of the files. If I need to upload a sound bite, I need to be able to crop it. A simple "Save between markers" would be more than enough, given the fact that the Markers function in FiRe is extremely good. Secondly, there's no way I'm going to be able to upload a 1 minute sound file to my station in Wave format over 3G. That would be over 10 Mb. We need to be able to compress the file into mp3 or any other small-size format. E-mail sending would also be a huge plus.

Other than that, highly recommended.

Best stereo recording app for the iphone

This is a million times better than any recording app thus far for the iPhone. Very easy to navigate, the waveform display is great, very easy to download the files. I did a couple of hour long recordings at full bandwidth and got some intermittent weirdness, almost sounded like cpu under run. (On an iPhone 3g with the Blue Mikey). Also for playback of the resulting files, I experienced a bit of weirdness. Not surprising given that its version 1.0, but I certainly wouldn't trust my life to it yet. The Blue Mikey also has its own kinks, the capsules seem to overload with reasonable spls way before the audio reaches 0 in fire. Sounds pretty decent though given the $.

I'd like to see an easier faster way to navigate 60 min files. The markers thing is great and works flawlessly, but a fast scrub would be nice. And to dream big, normalization, editing, and export to aac would be awesome.

WOW!

Hands down, the best recording app for the iPhone I've tried, and I've tried them all. The live waveform view, transport head positioning, metadata capabilities, FTP transfer, and dub features, coupled with the intuitive interface make this a must-have for casual foley geeks and serious audiophiles alike. Now I'm inspired to score a stereo mic just to take my geeking to the next level!

Awesome work, guys!
