Description

Undercover can help you locate any lost or stolen iPhone or iPod.
Upon registration, you will create a personal Undercover account at http://www.undercovercenter.com. Every time the Undercover application is launched, the phone's location and IP information is stored in your account. You can then login to your account to track the device.

If your iPhone is lost, you can set a message that will be displayed to the finder when he launches Undercover. In the meantime, Undercover will transmit your phone's location.

If your iPhone is stolen, Undercover will pretend to be a game. This will encourage the thief to wait a few seconds for the game to load, enabling Undercover to get accurate location information. This location information is then added to your account and transmitted to the police station where you reported the theft.

Make sure to install the free 'Found' application. It functions as a honeypot app by transmitting the phone's location to your Undercover account. Even if the thief removes Undercover from your iPhone, Found will still be able to transmit the device's location.

Customer Reviews

I'm on the fence...

A review I read, that led me to buy this app, led me to believe that this app "tricked" someone who has your phone into opening the app because it looks like a game. Maybe it's just me, but the app neither looks like a game, or has you play a fake game while it phones home. Furthermore, a shady figure that looks like a detective with a HAL like button/badge on his lapel AND the fact the name underneath says "Undercover" would probably indicate to me that this app is either going to phone home or try to locate itself, etc... In other words... If I had a stolen phone, this icon would be the LAST one I'd open.

I have Undercover on both of my Macs and love how hidden it is. The iPhone version, frankly isn't as stealth as I thought it was. If it looked like Pacman or if the icon and interface looked like the PHONE app, i'd probably reconsider and re-star.. but for now... i'm issuing an EPIC FAIL.

3 months+ and still no push or updates!

I use Undercover for my MacBook and have peace of mind while it on is all my Macs. I was excited for the iPhone app and now I am disappointed. I do not think the thief would be tricked into entering this app as it says Undercover and does not look inviting or like a game at all! It wouldn't be the first app I entered if I came across an iPhone. The 3.0 update has been out for over a week already and there is no update yet. I have MobileMe and have tried the "Find My iPhone" feature and it is very impressive! It utilizes the Push services for the 3.0 update and tracks your iPhone down with the ability to display messages on it. Orbicule states that it would integrate Undercover for iPhone into many games and apps but I seriously doubt that now. It's been 3 months already and still no update. What gives? I had hope for this app but until it is updated, it gets 1 star!

Problems

I had undercover installed an working on my phone... Got three position updates just fine. Then I had to do a phone swap with Apple due to a H/W problem. I reinstalled undercover, named my phone the same, no position updates. I opened and quit the app for a day. Nothing. I tried removing undercover, reinstalling as a different phone to same account. It would never show up. No registration email either. I just removed and reinstalled again, this time I tired to setup a new undercover account (different email address). It says its active, says email was sent. NOTHING. I'm in touch with their support but their instructions were to quit and restart the app as if I have not tried that already. I'll update my review if/when I get undercover working again. At this point I think their server is having an issue. No registration emails etc...
