A Deep Strategy Game That Will Keep You Busy
UniWar is a strategy game that will probably rank up there in terms of depth and replayability. If you enjoy playing risk-type games such as Lux DLX or vConqr, then UniWar will not only satisfy your need for challenge, it will satisfy it for a while. First things first, the game is very polished from the graphics to the sound effects. The game even shifts from landscape to portrait and vice versa. The storyline and instructions included in UniWar are probably as detailed and compelling as you will see in a game of this kind. I hope people will not be intimidated by the depth of UniWar because it really is a well-presented game.
In terms of gameplay, UniWar is turn-based so you’ll either be battling the different AI races or with online multiplayer other players in team matches. Briefly, the storyline involves three races—Khraleans, Sapiens, and Titans—each with their own set of strengths and weaknesses. You have four units: Ground Light, Ground Heavy, Aerial and Aquatic, and each inflict certain levels of damage based on the environment and special abilities of enemies. While this is based on personal preferences, you cannot set the AI level of difficulty which may or may not be an issue for some. Only time will tell, but an option would be welcome. Basically, you earn credits for bases you capture which you can use to further strengthen your army by building armies and buying additional units. The game offers several modes: Campaign, Solo, Online and Play Vs. Campaign involves progressive missions against the AI, while Solo enables you to play with specific maps and against the AI race of your choice. Online is the wifi multiplayer mode where you can play up to 20 games at a time, while Play Vs is local play where you had the device from player to player. The online play adds significantly to the replayability of UniWar. At the beginning of each map, you receive a war report which lists your objectives and battle statistics. Map objectives can range from capturing bases to leveraging specific attacks prior to capturing bases.
Your basic actions are Move, Attack, Stay, Capture and Repair and after specific actions, you then allow watch the AI or other online players make their moves. You simply tap your unit which brings an action menu from which to select relevant actions. As you battle enemies, you see numbers that depict the damage being done. Other features that add to the gameplay include Transformation, Plague, and Gang Up Bonuses and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There is entire list of weapons and rules that you can access in the Advanced Rules section. For example, Transformation (through the Engineer unit) allows you to transform a unit from a different race to change sides, while Plague will poison a specific race for entire game unless the unit repairs at a medical base. That’s just a taste of how deep UniWar is.
The online component does seem a little clunky in terms of set up. Currently, there are pages and pages (100+) of teams and created games which you swipe through. To get online, you can play anonymously or create an account, and initial impressions are that gameplay is smooth and in real time.
Having played through several missions, UniWar is not a pick-up-and-play game. You can easily spend a while on each mission, and from my perspective, each is as engaging as the next. Personally, the graphics are more than adequate for this type of game. Highly recommended!
Ay. May. Zing.
I bought this application for $0.99; I regret it. I should've bought it for the regular price. The developers deserve the money they should be getting. It was a steal at $0.99, whenever you see such a price tag, look up the game and if it's amazing, buy it! I've always been a fan of RTS-type games. This is one of them.
This game is amazing for it's way it plays. When you are out of class and you check your phone for texts, calls, and fill in some stuff in another application for homework, you can check for the push badges and check out the games that you're in and take your turn in the game. You don't have to be playing the whole game. You can be on and off, as long as you are in the time limit. This game has lots of play time and it is really fun to get friends into it.
Buy it when you can, before it goes over 9000 dollars.
AWESOME TURN-BASED STRATEGY GAME!!
It reminds me of Military Madness by Hudson. This game is beautiful and will give you hours upon hours of fun whether you play the campaign or online multiplayer. The online multiplayer works really well!. I did get annoyed by the email notifications when it's your turn but found out you can disable this in your account settings.
Go to Headquarters -> My Account and switch off the email notifications. JUST LOVE IT and can't wait to see a large community of players for this!
