Description
"The best electronic dictionary I've ever used." - Slate.com
Ninjawords is the simple, fast and deadly dictionary for the iPhone.
Ninjas are three things:
1. They're smart
2. They're quick
3. They're deadly accurate
Ninjawords was built on these principles. We made it because we saw that the low-cost dictionaries on the App Store are slow, cluttered, and all use the same bad data source for their definitions.
Ninjawords takes a different approach. We use awesome, fresh, high quality data with more words and synonyms than you can throw a ninja star at. And best of all, when you look up your words, they all stay on the page. No need to flip back and forth between different pages as you look up multiple words.

"Exactly what I've always wanted in an iPhone dictionary, and, yes, with both a better user experience and better dictionary content than the other low-cost dictionaries in the App Store."
John Gruber, DaringFireball.com
"I've been using the dictionary since the day it was released, and have since deleted all other dictionaries from my iPhone. It’s good. It’s really good."
Milind Alvares, SmokingApples.com
"A simple, lightweight, well-designed dictionary application."
Dan Moren, Macworld
"It leaves the competition in the dust. It is a ninja-based dictionary, after all."
Brian Heater, AppScout
What's New in Version 1.1
We've been hard at work adding the two most asked-for features:
* Pronunciations! We now have audio pronunciations for a ton of words -- just click the speaker icon. The rest of the app still works offline, but this feature requires network access.
* Censorship removal. Apple has said it's OK for us to publish to the App Store without limiting Ninjawords. Thank you everyone for your tremendous support.
We've also added more words, more definitions, more examples -- and we've jam packed them all to still fit in under 10MB of space. Enjoy!

Ninjawords: stellar. Censorship: asinine.
I've used the online version of Ninjawords for about as long as it's been around. It's a fresh take on a staid institution. I believe that using Ninjawords puts me into a more creative state when looking up words, I think a little bit different, I take a breath, I sharpen my prose. Ninja-style.
I am happy Ninjawords made it to the iPhone. I am unhappy that Apple censored its content. That behavior is (looks up "boorish," "pathetic") ... contemptuous.
You designed the rules, Apple.
Change them please.
Censored by the App Store
Note that this version of the dictionary is missing words deemed objectionable by the Apple App Store approvers, including words with entirely reasonable normal definitions. (Think of a word for something you would use in place of a nail, that turns as it goes into wood or metal. Yes, you couldn't find that in this dictionary.) And even after removing these words, it _still_ has a 17+ rating. For a dictionary. Hopefully the App Store will come to its senses and allow the developers to fix this app. It is a fine, fast, accurate dictionary, and deserves to shine, not be shunned.
If you have no need for a dictionary/thesaurus, you'll love it!
It mirrors the same quality provided by the website and therein lies the problem. You have to reduce your vocabulary to that of a toddler to find any synonymns. I looked up "redneck" to find synonyms and was dissapointed but not surprised to find none. Then looked up "horrible" to be sure the app actually provided synonyms because surely there would be some for such a common word, right? Nope. I looked up several more words, each a little more juvenile than the last, in hopes of finding some synonyms until finally I had to look up the word hot to find any and only 4 or so even then. The AED and Dictionary(.com) apps perform far better than this app, are even cheaper (dict.com is free and has audible pronounciations), and the differences in speed are negligible and unimpressive since one would expect nothing to load pretty fast. Overall a pretty horrible, abhorrent, awful, beastly, dreadful, execrable, heinous, lousy, lurid, shameful, repulsive dictionary. ;-)
