Jaunted: "You'll be instantly comfortable navigating the app by fingertip; it's almost as if the books were designed based on the app and not the other way around."

Some choice listings:
Arturo's "Classic NYC pizza joint with live jazz. NFT favorite."
Ghostbusters Firehouse "Are you the gatekeeper?"
Charles' Southern-Style Kitchen "The fried chicken they serve in heaven."

Disappointing, Less Content Than The Printed Version. .

First, let me say that I was greatly anticipating and was never more excited for an iPhone app. In fact, when the first iPod with iphoto came out, I downloaded PDF files of the NFT onto it. So you can imagine my giddiness upon hearing the news of NFTs inevitable arrival on the iPhone.

It looks like my optimism was premature. This app version seems rushed, is incomplete, reviews are short sentences where a paragraph would be welcome, and most annoying and disappointing of all, important data that was included in the printed version is sorely lacking (including map info of boundaries of the outer boroughs, most notably Williamsburgh, Brooklyn, where I live, which is arguably more relevant to Manhattan than, say, Inwood).

Also missing here are the extensive pages of fascinating reference, including park information and history, extensive landmark descriptions, and sporting venue seating charts. These are the kinds of charming details that had me so in love with the printed NFT since 2004, and had me so excited for the iPhone app; without it, this app is merely a shadow of its potential, and I cannot in good conscience recommend that anyone pay $4.99 for it. It's barely worth $1.99 as it is. Instead, I'll continue to refer to the NFT 2009 printed version. And the iTransit app does for me what NFT did back in 2004; helps me navigate the subways without asking for directions.

The failure here is by trying to streamline their well-researched content to make it more user-friendly, they trimmed muscle as well as fat as they sacrificed it's greatest strength; content. Now its barely distunguishable from other crappy NYC "hip" guide-book apps. Add more content, making it mirror the printed version, and I'll change my rating. Until then, I highly recommend AGAINST buying this app.

hm. needs works

i'm an nft fan, but i think this app is rushed. the best things are:
- it looks nice
- it will expand well
- offers concise picks
the worst things are:
- maps don't scale: try viewing dense listings on a street like broadway on the UWS, almost impossible
- some of the info is just wrong: eg. guggenheim is listed in UWS, along with a bunch of UES stuff
- central park is virtually empty
- no listings for things like bookstores or parks, which seem like really obvious things
- some of the editorials are needlessly snarky
- pricey for the content

UPDATE PLEASE!

There are restaurants on here that have been closed for years. How is any of the information to be trusted!? With such a limited list you'd think this could be managed. Please update...this is an embarrasing offering. Otherwise, how do we get a refund?
